Dating pregnancy after miscarriage

I sadly miscarried at 7weeks pg at start of July. I have since had bfps and strong symptoms indicating that I must have fallen pregnant again at some point since. Having not had a period I decided that my best guess at dating it would be to count on from the first day of the mc bleed. This makes me 7weeks today so I called to organise a booking in appointment as they say they like to see you between 8-10wks. Midwife on the phone said "I really fail to see how you can be 7 weeks, you're probably 4 or 5" and booked me in for 21st Sep!

I'm not too worried about the appointment as I know she's right in that I might only be 4/5 weeks. But was I correct in my approach to calculating it?? Isn't counting on from the first day of bleeding the most academic way of doing it until a scan?? Is it impossible to have conceived 2 weeks after the mc?

Apparently women ovulate 2-4 weeks after a miscarriage, and I myself believe I got pregnant around 3 weeks after our last miscarriage. The midwife may just be saying that to be safe, as if she bases it on your estimate and you're wrong, you will likely just have to go back again in a few weeks, so this saves that extra appointment. She should probably have tried a friendlier manner in which to tell you this though.

At this point a few weeks here or there won't make much difference, but I really hope you're lucky in that this is a successful pregnancy for you :)

not impossible. I got preg straight after my 2nd mc. I had my regular ov2 weeks after my 1st mc and period after 4 weeks and i was assuming the same this time around.
MW had no choice but to date it from my last bleed (mc). Had an earlyish scan for bleeding (10+5) and they actually only dated me 4 days later than my lmp edd. Which is totally normal for me because I have longer cycles than the average 28 days that they normally use to work out a due date.
I'd call them again and just insist, maybe cry and say how worried you are about it.
or call you'r gp to get them to refer you quicker? perhaps they can give you a "reassurance scan " which would also measure the crl especially seeing as you really could be 7 weeks around now.

I think it would only make a big difference if your dating scan doesn't come in until late - 13/14 weeks (making you possibly 16/17 weeks . So they wouldn't be able to do all the genetic screening they normally offer at 11-14 weeks.

Thanks for the responses Smile I think I felt quite patronised on the phone when she said I can't possibly be 7 weeks! So it's reassuring to hear that is can happen.
I don't want to risk missing the 12-14 wk window for the scan but I guess the most I could be by 21st sep is 11wks so there should be time to try and get in a scan Confused! Thanks again x

You'd hope!
I'm in an area where there are two hospitals so when I had to book my app at 11weeks I had about a handful of options to book in on time.
Fingers crossed all goes well! 😊
