Hi there,

I'm gonna have a go at the baby's room. It isn't the biggest. Any advice?

I'm currently choosing wallpaper, here are my contenders:

(swimming bears lol!)

Exciting! Are you going to wallpaper every wall floor to ceiling or just one wall? Personally the patterns are too much/bright for me. Perhaps one wall and the other walls painted? That being said my preference is the swimming bears, I think u could find lots of accessories to go nicely with that! Do you have Pinterest? I have lots of nursery decoration ideas stored from there and my nursery is all set (in my mind!) from gathering ideas on there. It might help you too!

I love the bear one! I like that it's subtle and would look great as a feature wall. I personally find the others a bit too busy

peachesarenom · 14/08/2018 13:08

The bears make me laugh loads! I just don't know who dreams that sort of thing up!

My DH is also worried about paper being too dark/bright/busy. Only want to wallpaper one wall and then have one photo wall!

Can't pinterest as it takes over my life, just want to get on with things, bit overexcited obvs!

Too late, I've gone back to pinterest, I may never be back!

Pinterest is great! Get everything decided and then delete the app so you can't start to doubt things!

I love the birds one!! Lots of lovely colours you could pick out for accessories and other parts of the room.

Personally I think that’s the one a baby would like the most (when he or she is old enough to see it!).

I think some nurseries are decorated with the baby in mind and some with the parents in mind. Either is fine IMO, the child focused one might last a bit longer that’s all. Depends how soon you’re willing to redecorate!

I LOVE the bears one. It makes you laugh, go for it! My cousin chose all bright colours for her quite large nursery and, when her baby wouldn’t sleep, the HV suggested she take all the pictures and mobiles and shelves of bright coloured toys and everything down u TIL he was at least a year older, the room was so busy he was overstimulated just being in it!

It worked! So err on the side of caution just in case!

Ps re best buys...

We have one of these animals on springs attached to the ceiling. Our little girl loves it and we wish we had bought it sooner. It would have been a great nappy changing distraction when she was tiny!)

You can find them in other shops but this is the first place online that I could find them to link to

Oh I love the look of the spring animals!

I think I might put the birds one on a small wall by the window and the bears on the larger wall, opposite a photowall.

A lot of the nursery's on pinterest are a little bit 'prison block grey'!

I agree, it is tricky thinking about what the baby might like compared to old man DH! I heard babies can see contrast first so the trees and birds would be really good!

Lol... We clearly have different tastes. I'm. definitely going for what you describe as 'prison block grey' 😂 this is my inspiration so far. I will go for this kind of look. Other colours or patterns can be introduced as baby gets older through curtains or cushions, even toys add colour so. I prefer the room itself to be calm and peaceful

SophieStripe I really love the yellow car and the framed pics of animals. I'm defo having pics like that. I think the image I didn't like was a baby in a ball bit where are the balls were shades of grey. I don't think there is that much grey in your pics!

Redecorating is expensive and you don't want to have to do it regularly. For that reason I would choose neutral, not "babyish" wallpaper and curtain material, and add baby touches with pictures and other easily changeable accessories.

When I decorated my first child's nursery, I didn't think of this and the wallpaper and curtains were lovely for a baby but when he was 3 and wanted trains, it wasn't so good. If we'd stayed in that house it would have got worse the older he'd got!

peachesarenom · 14/08/2018 14:59

I just looked through this! It made me cry, can't wait to fill it out! Defo recommend!

I wouldn’t personally wallpaper unless you are happy to redecorate in a few years or plan to use the same room for any subsequent babies, moving older children into different rooms. You can get beautiful wall decals which can be removed and changed when baby is old enough to have an opinion. Overstimulation is a valid point, too.

beingthere · 14/08/2018 16:33

Magpiefeather we had one of those above the changing table! Guy makes them and sells them at the baby shops...
