Favourite perfume during pregnancy?

Hello ladies! Smile

A bit of a weird question... So this is my first pregnancy and as a scent-obsessed girl I would like to find a unique fragrance to associate with this special time. I am normally an Angel/Poison Girl gal, but I was thinking of something subtler? Maybe Jo Malone?

Do you have a special fragrance you wear during pregnancy?

Ooooh, I do! Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey seemed like the only scent in the world that was still nice and didn't make me violently sick during my pregnancies!

My DPs anti perspirant was a smell I craved... nivea men's dry impact... such a clean smell!

I had been given Daisy by Marc Jacobs as a gift. I don't particularly like it but it was just about the only perfume I own (I have lots!) that I could stomach!

@LorelaiVictoriaGilmore (cool username btw, Gilmore Girls is one of my fav series!) - I was thinking of getting eitherJo Malone's Pear and Freesia, or Nectarine Blossom - or possibly a combination of the two! Grin

Pear and freesia is usually one of my faves... just not while I have morning sickness!

I recall drooling over clean smells. Stardrops with ammonia was a fav. I could have breathed that in all day. That and Mr Muscle bathroom cleaner . Grin

I'm not sure why anyone would have a specific perfume for pregnancy? I mostly wore my favourite, angel.

dinosaurkisses · 06/08/2018 11:31

I went off a perfumes- I’d just bought a new bottle of Mac Velvet Teddy and once the nausea started I couldn’t stomach it. Had to give it to my sister!

I couldn’t stand wearing any perfume- the artificial scent would just tip over the edge of my morning sickness.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 06/08/2018 11:42

I've found that I've been nauseous when wearing perfumes during pregnancy, and when not wearing anything scented at all, I've been feeling absolutely fantastic, so I've put my perfumes and scented products away and have started using unscented products instead.

It may just be a phase - and may just be me.

Yarnswift · 06/08/2018 14:52

Couldnt stand any perfume during either pregnancy. Made me vomit.

Also (and this isn’t official advice in any way so don’t panic but based on various things I’ve avoided after a long career of working in a lab) I’m not entirely sure perfume itself is 100% benign during pregnancy - ‘fragrance’ can be absolutely anything, it doesn’t need to be labelled properly and many things like artificial musks are teratogenic.

Grumpos · 06/08/2018 15:14

I love Jo Malone English Pear and freesia! I’ve ran out now but I did buy the candle, which I am yet to crack open (it’s too pretty)
I also really like Paul Smith Roses, which is a great scent if you like light florals. Although it definitely does not last more than a couple of hours.

I am a perfume nerd and have a large collection but I developed the nose of a bloodhound during both of my pregnancies and found all of my usual favourites unbearably overpowering.

If you’ve been lucky enough to avoid this then there is some early evidence that exposure to lots of phthalate might not be a great idea in pregnancy, especially early on, so you might want to find something phthalate-free.

GetThisBabyOut · 06/08/2018 15:34

I don’t wear perfume. However, if they bottled the scent of Fairy Non Bio, I’d probably bathe in it 😂 I can’t get enough!

Gottokondo · 06/08/2018 15:36

Perfume made me nauseous during my pregnancies. Even scented soap made me gag. I could only stomach the smell of milk and fish.

It's a special time anyway, with or without the scent. You will never forget this, don't worry about that.

Hopehope20 · 06/08/2018 19:25

Jo Malone - Wild Bluebell 😍

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 06/08/2018 19:29

My sense of smell went berserk in pregnancy. Couldn't tell the difference between toasted tea cake and toilet bleach. As a result I completely went off floral and musky scents. I developed a liking for Anna Sui Secret Wish, which had quite a sharp, grapefruity scent. Can't stand it now, but when I was pregnant it was just the job.

Monipop84 · 07/08/2018 07:12

@Yarnswift thanks for the heads up. I knew about parabens but was unaware of phthalates! I have started shopping at Holland and Barrett and they do a great range of natural toiletries, so I will probably have a look there.

Pick something you don’t particularly like or want to wear again as I can guarantee you will associate it with feeling sick, hot, huge and fed up. I still can’t wear Stella nearly 10 years later.
