Short femur length

Had a 4d scan and just happened to notice that the FL was only 35th percentile, whereas the Head and abdomen were 85th and 67th.
Should I be giving this any thought or am I just having a short but large headed child?

Im not an expert but 2 of mine were 90 percentile head, 50 percentile abdomen and 30/40 femur. They are now slightly short boys (Im short), but not particularly so. I think they do have quite big heads as I had to get them adult caps from 8 or 9 but you wouldn't notice it to look at them.

Only thing I would say is that I had shoulder dystocia with both of them (and not at other births they are my eldest and youngest) which I guess might have been because of their big heads!

Good point about big caps- I must have a large head as I find it hard to get hats to fit Grin So baby must take after me. Lucky baby Grin

Hi! When I went to my 20wk scan showed femur at 5th centile, where as head at 50 and torso at 30. Went two weeks later and femur was catching up so I think things grow at different times and rates so I wouldn't worry too much!

My DD had small femurs throughout pregnancy. I was quite worried about it (they were 5th percentile and the rest of her was 40th). She is absolutely fine though her legs are short ( she may not manage to be an international basketball player Smile). I would try not to worry (I know it's hard not to). It will probably be fine.

I had this too, growth scans at 28 and 34 weeks showed FL on the 29th centile, head on 42nd and tummy on 97th!!!
However, he came out all in proportion, and everyone comments on his long legs!
I wouldn’t worry too much about scans, they can be inaccurate and as pp said things grow at different rates. :-)

Thanks all! Well if she has stubby little legs I won’t be surprised Smile

My baby's head and abdomen are above the 90% centile and the femur length is just below the 50th. I am preparing for a short-arse with a big head wonder where it got that from.
