Hi everyone.

I'm in need of success stories! I'm 24 and have low PAPP-A 0.22 and baby's NT was 1.2 and I am currently near 30 weeks.

I need to get some insight on how your story ended. I'm dwelling on the what could be's and really worrying I will come home without a baby.
Did you get induced?
Did you go on to have a normal delivery/ Labour?
Were you hoping for the best but expecting the worst?

Please help me ladies 🙏😩

Oh sand thank you for the good luck wishes ! Going at half 5 today... just trying to work out whether or not a trip to Ikea is the best antidote for the wait haha

Hopehope20 · 19/08/2018 09:25

I have left all my scans not feeling like I fully understood what happened. My papp a is just below the threshold at 0.4 and my HCG 0.5 so fairly low too. I came back as low risk though so didn't do any further testing. I have always regretted that slightly as it has played on my mind a little. So many women on here get a high risk result and then harmony turns out completly clear. You can then relax and enjoy your pregnancy. I definitely think Ikea is a good distraction technique. Just trying to find my way around usually takes my mind of anything!

cheesegobbler · 19/08/2018 11:05

Do you know what the threshold is then ? I got very confused ... I know you should google but I did and it said that at 13 weeks I should be in the thousands?! I am going to ask the consultant tonight anyway because mine was 0.23 and my papp a was 0.21. We have decided to boycott Ikea - I found the baskets I wanted on amazon for the same price and we only went on weds so I thought it was unfair to force the OH to go again haha. Going for a walk and a spot of brunch though so not all is lost Smile

Hopehope20 · 19/08/2018 16:45

Ah good plan! From what I know, regarding the bloods done at the dating scan, 'normal' for both HCG and Papp is 1. I am not sure how this compares to the HCG that gets measured when doctors are trying to check a pregnancy is progressing because as you say...those numbers are in the 1000s so I feel it might be a different measurment. For papp a the threshold is 0.47 in my area. I was 0.41. I am not sure if the HCG threshold is the same as that. Have you had your harmony test now? How long do the results take? X

cheesegobbler · 19/08/2018 17:06

No just on our way now , results take 3-5 working days but will/ should be able to see if anything is untoward on the scan as it's more in-depth than the nhs one. Il try to remember to asked the consultant about the hcg thing x

Hopehope20 · 19/08/2018 19:13

Good luck xx

cheesegobbler · 19/08/2018 19:35

Thanks, I am back now. They said the hcg is different because it is a percentage of what is classed as 'normal' so they work it out as- mine is 0.23... so if normal is 1 then I am only 23% of normal. So that's why it's classed as low. Hope that makes sense. They said my results would be next Monday/Tuesday as they get sent away to London for analysis. There were no soft markers so that's at least 1 positive c

Hopehope20 · 20/08/2018 20:36

That is a positive for no soft markers. Keep yourself busy and positive, I know the week is going to feel very long. Good luck, keep us posted won't you?

cheesegobbler · 21/08/2018 07:09

Will do :) xx

cheesegobbler · 24/08/2018 21:33

Good news guys!! Everything came back low risk... I am beyond exhausted from worrying so this couldn't have come soon enough!! So happy

Hopehope20 · 25/08/2018 15:12

Oh yes!!!! Congratulations! So pleased for you. what amazing relief you must feel. Get some rest now and enjoy your pregnancy. So happy for you x

Has anyone measured small at the extra growth scans?
I had one at 35 weeks as my midwife measured me as small and they said he was smaller than hoped from the scan. Got another one now at 37 weeks but wondered if this would increase my chances of being induced or not being able to have a midwife led birth.

Blissfulignorance · 05/09/2018 12:40

My baby boy was born 40+1 weighing in at 8lbs.

My papp a was 0.29.

SolitaA · 05/09/2018 20:27

I am having growth scans every 2 weeks and seeing consultant. Baby measuring under 10th centile and currently 30 weeks. Seeing consultant this Friday armed with lots of questions. Ive had bleeds through pregnancy from placenta too (as well as low papp A) so hoping to make it to at least 34 weeks first then 37.

Defnotunique · 05/09/2018 22:12

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. I measured high risk for Edwards and patau due to my low Papp-a. I have no idea what my levels were as nobody has ever actually told me! Baby is absolutely fine though.
I of course at the time went off and consulted doctor google (obviously I was dying and my leg was to be amputated and a my blood had turned green - according to the www) but the thing is that there is no real information. The doctors and midwives aren’t very forthcoming with information and judging by the different care that we are all experiencing it seems that best practice and protocols vary widely across the country.
Which leads me to believe that there isn’t much proper research out there and they professionals are merely just winging it and almost making it up as they go along.
I’ve had growth scans where baby is sitting on the 81st percentile, blood flow is absolutely fine, yet they’re adamant that they HAVE to induce me.
This doesn’t make me happy, I don’t want to be induced especially on the grounds of such conflicting information.
I was training to be a midwife 5 years ago completed 2/3 years then had a major car accident which meant I had to give it up.
None of this Papp-a malarkey existed then and I really really do wonder if they have invested enough into ththe research instead of scaremongering parents.
I was only really able to start enjoying my pregnancy at 20 weeks once I had my anomaly scan. Which is sad cause, I wanted to share my News with the world - but I was terrified about tempting fate..... even now I still haven’t shared it!
I think they need to invest more into the research and actually be able to provide parents to be with real factual information. And have a NICE guideline to represent the care that that all women should receive. Not wing it based on the postcode.

Got results from my 12 week screening a couple of weeks ago. Low chance for downs / Edwards and pattaus think the letter said something like 1:500,000 but there was another letter in there about low PAPP-A but didn't mention what it actually was.

Already had a consultant booked for next week as requesting ELCS this time so it will also be used to to discuss this apparently. So just placemarking as there are some really helpful posts ☺️

Defnotunique · 06/09/2018 08:12

@thismramsnothing
Speak to them about what the protocols are in your local area.
The more information you can gain from them the better.
But we wary of conflicting information from different consultants.

Emmah1993 · 11/09/2018 08:34

I've found out I'm being induced on Saturday, which just so happens to be my birthday also! I will be 37+4 ❤️

Had my consultant appointment.... apparently my PAPP-A is fine and had been sent a letter by mistake. Way to have me worried for nearly a month!

BrewsD · 15/09/2018 13:38

Sorry I'm just jumping on here to hear some success stories! I also measured low PAPP-A of 0.24
Currently 30weeks and receiving serial scans. Everything seems fine so far but I am worried about needing to be induced/having a small baby.

SolitaA · 15/09/2018 13:56

good luck today @Emmah1993

Emmah1993 · 28/01/2019 13:06
