Due this week and cat acting weird

Just wondered if anyone else had something like this. I'm due 3rd DC any day now. EDD is Saturday but both DCs arrived slightly early.
The weird thing is that one of our cats is suddenly very affectionate. He's normally very aloof, likes a scratch around the ear but is certainly not a lap cat.
The last couple of days though he will not leave me alone! He's quite a big cat but has been jumping up on my knee, trying to sit on my chest as close to my face as possible and generally being my shadow. Don't get me wrong, it's lovely to have extra kitty cuddles but is so out of character for him. The other cats are behaving normally.
DH reckons he can 'smell something' Hmm and it must mean labour is imminent!

Often animals will get more lovey as Labour approaches.

Your DH is correct and they do smell the hormones,
Animals are smart and understand the changes your body is going through, often cats will help eachother when in labour to ensure a safe delivery.

Weird. Will have to warn DH to be on standby! Grin
Can't sleep either, normally can sleep for England! Maybe that's another sign.

My cat has been doing this from my 23rd week. When I have a pee she comes to sit on edge of the bath and start sniffing. She lays over my tummy and purrs.
She been bringing me things to eat (crickets, mice and some birds) and she quite concerned I should have this extra protein. She normally eats them herself. Yuck! I have to politely except it then dispose when she’s not around. She taking it all so seriously that we have renamed her the furrry midwife. It’s very sweet, but yes. I think they do know. From what I read they are picking up on hormonal changes on your breath, sweat etc... what was weird was the week my cat started doing these things was the week my breasts started to leak a bit. They are obviously more tuned in that we humans. I believe dogs are like this too.

My dog has been my shadow more so this past week (he is my fur-baby anyway but even more lately!) i go to the loo he waits on me when he comes in from outside he will bolt upstairs to find me (if that where i am) and the other day he sniffed my chest and bump repeated while i had a lie down (boobs had started leaking) and im due next week

Clarashan · 17/07/2018 09:11

My cat has been the same since about 18 weeks. He likes to cuddle with his head on my belly, i'm guessing he can hear DD's heartbeat. He's also started following me room to room and to the toilet. He will go in and look in the bowl before I get chance to close the door.

lmx0 · 17/07/2018 09:23

@Clarashan 😂 my dog when i was sick used to stand with his head in the bowl beside me 😂 animals are so funny and cute

snowy1982 · 17/07/2018 09:41

From quite early on in my pregnancy one of my dogs has been following me to the toilet all the time, he will just stand outside the door and wait for me (other dog obviously doesn’t give a toss)

lmx0 · 17/07/2018 10:42

@snowy1982 theres always one!! 😂

Lemontwist · 17/07/2018 14:07

Isn't it funny how they act. The other cats couldn't care less though. Will be interesting to see how they all act when the baby arrives. I seem to remember one of my cats was terrified of DC1 when he was newborn Grin

@Lemontwist 😂😂😂

ICanOnlyLaugh · 17/07/2018 14:56

I have two cats and when I was pregnant everyone asked me whether they'd been acting differently.

If my cats knew that I was pregnant, they certainly didn't care Grin

They were just as happy to share me with the baby though, so it all worked out. They just weren't that bothered either way.

beccii161016 · 17/07/2018 14:57

Yes!! My cat became very very clingy! When I went into labour with DS I had to stay overnight and DP said the cat was going crazy. Running to each window meowing looking for me. I had to speak to him through the phone and he started purring haha!

Very strange but very cute!

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 17/07/2018 15:00

Think you might be due soon!

My male cat was all over me when I was expecting ds1, my female cat was more cuddly when I was having dd. They both fought to get on my knee first when I had ds2, but I think that's because they had competition with two toddlers by that time!

blackbirdbluebottle · 17/07/2018 15:01

That’s weird! I know pets can sense death, some care homes have pets and when the pets start being really affectionate the patient dies soon after... didn’t realise this happened on the other side of the life cycle

Lemontwist · 17/07/2018 16:51

This is fascinating! No twinges yet but will have to keep you all posted!

@Lemontwist please do!!

Grazek · 17/07/2018 17:00

My dog has been acting strangely from about 20 weeks, I’m 31 weeks now.
She would wake me up at night by staring at me and as soon as I open my eyes she’d wag her tail and go back to sleep. Then repeat the whole process few hours later.
Think she is checking if I’m ok Smile

ManicStreetTeacher · 17/07/2018 17:08

Mine did this when I started mat leave with my 3rd - 3 weeks before the baby arrived. He was noticeably affectionate and wouldn't leave me alone!

boodles101 · 17/07/2018 19:00

My dog became extremely protective when I was pregnant with DS. He is usually the soppiest little thing that would just lick you to death, but he became very protective of my bump and wouldn't leave me alone. Towards the end, I had a home visit from the midwife, I laid on the sofa so she could measure my bump and the dog immediately jumped up on me and got in her way. He did not like the stranger touching me!!

December2018 · 17/07/2018 19:23

It's so cute when they are being all loving and protective my dogs have been lying in front of the Moses basket in my living room and refuse to move, only when I leave the room they follow me and then go and lie back down again in the same place, sort of on guard lol
Mainly my old boy lately, I'm 18 weeks tomorrow

@December2018 that’s beyond adorable.
I want to cuddle your dog.

lmx0 · 17/07/2018 19:49

@December2018 very cute but my dog would be away with the lovely little stars (although he could surprise me since it was be the babies!) 😂

December2018 · 17/07/2018 19:52

He's gorgeous isn't he! He's still there now 😂
He usually would have been off with the stars or anything cuddly but nope! He's surprised me lol

Ohyesiam · 17/07/2018 19:53

Cats know all.
