Likely to be induced today

I am 37wks+6 FTM (age 35). I have had an easy pregnancy (no extra scans needed, perfect BP throughout, no hospital visits etc) - I had a routine midwife appointment yesterday & my BP was high so they sent me to hospital for monitoring. Turns out I have hypertension and I had to stay in overnight last night (1st overnight hospital visit in my life) and it is very likely they want to induce me ... today
I am just in a bit of shock really as the pregnancy was going along so well, everything low risk etc
Now I have had 1.5hrs sleep overnight and its likely I will be induced today - no idea why I am writing this, maybe for reassurance that it will all be ok .. ?

Ah good luck! It’s a shock when a pregnancy suddenly has to end sooner than expected and you’re mentally not ready yet!

Are you happy with the plan for induction? Remember you have the right to decline procedures and/or ask for a section as an alternative if you’d prefer. Not long til you can have baby cuddles

Oh good luck! Get them to go through absolutely everything with you, so you know what to expect. And if something makes you feel uncomfortable you don’t have to agree!

You will be absolutely fine, you’re in safe hands. And baby snuggles soon, which make it all totally worth it. Hope it’s as straightforward as possible for you

Good luck OP. I had a textbook perfect pregnancy until my waters broke with meconium but no contractions started so I had to be induced. I was 40+3 though so at least I was expecting to give birth around that time. Hope it all goes well for you. Good advice above re discussing options and being comfortable with the decision. Do what works best for you.

Can't say I am entirely happy to be induced but basically if I don't get induced today then I still have to stay in hospital anyway due to my bp so really I guess it makes sense.
Will know more after a chat with the dr later this morning I hope.

Erm... I got hypertension at 37 weeks and they put me on labetalol tablets, I wasn't induced. I was scheduled for c-sec at 39 Weeks anyway. Why are they inducing you rather than treating the hypertension or is it not responding to treatment?

They give me tablets to take which brings the bp down slightly but it always goes back up as soon as they wear off. I will know more when I speak to the Dr later this morning.

Good luck. I was induced and found it to be a positive experience. No further interventions were needed, so it can go well. Baby snuggles soon!

Consultant said they are going to monitor me & could send me home with tablets until my due date .... fingers crossed!!!!

UPDATE They changed their mind - my bp was still high so I have started the process of being induced (pessary at 7pm Sat night).

Hope you're doing ok op and soon have your baby in your arms. Induction gets a really bad name on here, but for many it's still a good birth experience and I hope it's that way for you

How exciting. I'd recommend lots to eat and lots of sleep. My induction went on for a while and I got very little of either. Both are needed to get through labour, so get as much as you can just now.
