So the new government advice is NO booze at all in pregnancy.

Who's going to stick to the new advice? (Or already is?)

If your coffee has been decaffeinated using the Swiss Water method (no chemicals) then it's not going to do any harm - not that I think decaff by any other method would, but I thought I would mention it

I think Whittards sells coffee that's been decaffeinated via Water method - not sure about coffee shops etc though!

I don't have any problem with the new advice. It's advice, not law, and it makes sense to me that if you're concerned about risk to the foetus, the best way to avoid all alcohol related risk is to steer clear of it completely, in the same way that pregnant women are advised to steer clear of runny cheese, pate, soft ice-cream etc. I've yet to see a pregnant woman being carted off in a police van for eating a Mr Whippy.

Advice is there for you to follow or ignore as you see fit. I routinely ignored pretty much all of the dietary advice throughout my pregnancy but the fact that there is such government advice didn't offend me and I didn't feel it encroached upon my human rights or whatever. Similarly, I drank probably a couple of units a fortnight when I was pregnant and I would do so again.
