First midwife appoint little late?

Hiya! So totally new to all this, just joined and this is my first post...

SO.... I've been feeling sick the past 2 weeks and was late (which is nothing new to me so didnt think anything of it) HOWEVER if it wasn't for wanting to sleep ALL the damn time and literally anything making me want to be sick (no appetite etc etc) I wouldn't of bought a pregnancy test yesterday. So just picked up the £1 ones from ASDA and waiting until this morning.

Not expecting anything (as per) you can imagine my shock when within seconds 2 little blue lines pop up!!! Grin Grin Grin
I was literally shaking, anyway after about an hour I rang my doctors surgery to make an app and was told the next one wasnt until the 16th july!!

Up until about 2 hours ago I hadn't been able to work out how "far along" I am, my periods have been few and far between all my life so never really kept track, if it happened it happened. you know?
Anyway I worked out that by the time my appointment comes around i'd be around 12ish weeks?

Should I ring back up and tell them and try get an earlier one or just hold off? Just I know it'd be due a scan and there's the "nuchal translucency scan" that you get then as well, so im just a bit worried :/

Sorry for the extremely long post but any help would be appreciated

You’d probably be best off ringing either the antenatal clinic at the hospital and ask to speak to a midwife or again at the hospital ask to speak to the community midwives manager. Ask them for advice they may be able to either book a scan independently of the booking appt or sort you out for a booking with a different community midwife who has an earlier slot.

I would maybe ring them and explain, when i found out I had mine rushed as I had no idea how far along I was at all, according to my last period I could have been up to 18 weeks already so midwife saw me asap and arranged scan asap for dating. By the time I had my dating scan i was nearly 9 weeks. It depends on your hospital though mine was very busy but managed to get a scan urgently as obviously I could have been well in to my pregnancy. The midwife might call you soon anyway or you could ask for her number

Thanks for your quick replies!
Well I rang the GP so should i just ring the hospital directly?
Will try give them both a ring tomorrow morning. Got so many other things running through my head that I need to have one thing sorted x

Do you need to see a GP? In most areas you just self refer to the midwife service.

captainshortie · 29/06/2018 22:06

Well I asked that on the phone, and I said "Do I need to ring the midwife?" And she said no i'll just book you in with her, however shes fully booked until the 16th.

Totally confused now :/

But the 16th July is just over 2 weeks time? So you reckon you’re already 10 weeks?

captainshortie · 29/06/2018 22:11

If - going off what i've read - is correct and you go from the 1st date of your last period, mine was the 1st May so that'd make me at just coming up to the back end of week 8?

If you are irregular, can you pick up a clear blue dating test? It’ll show you how many weeks since you conceived.

NotARegularPenguin · 29/06/2018 23:20

The hospital depts won’t be open at the weekend, ring Monday.

Gemsie1984 · 30/06/2018 00:48

I had my booking in appointment at 12+6, I referred myself but took ages to get the appointment through. I had my scan before my booking appointment!

Don’t waste money on the digital test, it only goes up to showing a time of 3 weeks+ and going by your last period, you must be beyond that for sure.

captainshortie · 30/06/2018 10:32

Ive just phoned the GP's surgery there and she agreed that it needed to be between a certain time frame, so has put a "message" on my records for the midwife and i've got to call back monday, so lets see what happens :D
