Hi all. I went for an early scan at 6+0 today which was done transvaginally. The sonographer pointed out the gestational sac, the yolk sac and what she called “the start of a baby” by which I presume she meant the fetal pole. She said she couldn’t see a heartbeat which I knew was a possibility at just six weeks, but then went on to say she couldn’t confirm a viable pregnancy as the gestational sac measured 7-8 weeks compared to the embryo which looked about 6 weeks. I know for a fact my dates are correct as I’ve been tracking my cycle for the last two years whilst TTC so I definitely am only 6 weeks. Plus I used the Clearblue tests with weeks indicator and the weeks indicators were all consistent with my dates.
All she could say was that they would scan me again in another two weeks by which point it would be obvious whether the pregnancy was viable or not.
Has anybody else been told their gestional sac was larger than expected? I can’t seem to find much information about it online.
For a bit of background I’m 42 and have been TTC for the last two years. We’ve had four miscarriages in the last 18 months, all between 4 and 5 weeks so we really thought this would be the one that would make it and now I just don’t know what to think. My husband is trying to remain positive but I’m finding it hard to look for the bright side at the moment.
