Bumps, Back Pain and Bed

Hi,

I have a bad back anyway so knew I'd struggle during pregnancy but didn't expect it so soon, predominately in bed which is normally my 'go to' to ease the pain.

I'm 17 weeks and at my last midwife appointment on Monday she did the first heartbeat scan which was amazing and so emotional to hear but she told me that my uterus is higher than average which is making her believe that I'll have a big baby - my partner is 6'3 so I was semi expecting it...

I'm looking to get a pillow for sleeping but there's so many I don't know where to start... any tips for bad backs and big bumps?

From an already tired Mummy!

Get yourself a V shaped pillow.

Sending you sympathy OP. I am really struggling with back pain at the moment and have tried multiple pregnancy pillows but none support my back enough so I’ve started stacking pillows so I’m effectively sleeping on my back but propped up. The sleeping on my side is giving me chronic back pain.

Swimming is easing up the pain as is cycling (weirdly!)

I went for the cheap option last time and got huge long pillows from Argos.
Will try find a link

But honestly I found that pillow great behind me, a small square cushion under bump and good standard pillow in between knees (knee yo ankle) most comfy once I was bigger.
Currently 24wks with #2 and have pillow between knees and a bit of the quilt under bump.

It's the half hourly or hourly turns that are exhausting. I can't seem to stay comfy for longer than that.

I have the kit for kids cuddle me pillow as OH found it on offer so it was only about £20. It's good but not recommended for tall people (I'm just under 5'4"). That said I'm now 24 weeks and beginning to get hip pain from lying on my side so as pp said I find I am turning very regularly which is annoying and haven't slept properly for about a week now.

I am also doing pregnancy yoga which helps stretch/strengthen your pelvis safely, but not sure if it would work if you usually have back pain anyway.
