Gallstones / biliary colic -30 weeks

41 year old, expecting 3rd, everything going ok (apart from the usual -heartburn, exhaustion, constipation, older DC wearing me out...) but have had two episodes of severe abdominal pain.

It seems quite likely to be gallstones/ biliary colic. I have this pain twice before -just before DC2 was born and again just after. This was about 4 years ago, and I saw my GP who took some bloods and found that my liver function was off, caused, most likely by blockage in the biliary tree. No scan to confirm, as I was told it was probably pregnancy related and I might be lucky and never get it again.

The pain has been really severe. I thought I might be dying the other night! I’m now really worried this is going to keep happening for the rest of the pregnancy, and worried about preterm labour.

Anyone had this and got any tips for managing this in pregnancy?

I haven't got any useful tips for dealing with this is pregnant OP, but just wanted to say that I feel for you! I have had gallstones and an infection in my bile duct, I have also given birth. They are 2 of the most painful things I have ever experienced but at least I knew with birth that it would be over. The only thing that stopped gall stone pain for me was morphine.

Can your GP not prescribe stronger painkillers, i'm sure there are some that are safe during pregnancy? My only advice to you is to eat as healthily as possible, avoid fatty foods and things like pastry etc. That's what set mine off more than anything.

Hope you can get some relief!

Thanks Dorabean, I’m being very careful what I eat!
