Has anyone else had bleeding after sex?

Hi everyone you'll probably remember my post from last week when I had heavy bleeding the day after me and OH had sex. Went to EPU and everything was fine couldn't see where the bleeding was coming from and said that it was probably the cervix. Anyway I've been so scared to have sex again and then three days ago we did it again after a week and then the day after in the evening I noticed I had started to bleed again 24 hours afterwards which then quickly turned to brown blood and then this morning there is alot more but is once again brown blood rather than red blood. So it does sound like it is after sex but my god its so scary I keep having to tell myself that everything is okay! Just wanted to know if anyone has ever experienced anything similar just to put my mind at ease a bit more?! Xx

I had this a few years back. It took a while to get to the bottom of it but it turned out I had a cervical erosion and had to have some cells burnt off (less scary than it sounds, honestly!) I would ask your gp to refer you for a colposcopy.

I had this when I was pregnant with dc1. I had a low lying placenta and had to avoid sex for the rest of the pregnancy.

i havent while pregnant, but i have in the past, i asked the clinic about it when i saw them next and they said sometimes, especially close to your period, the skin inside gets very sensitive so sometimes you can get a little tear which can cause bleeding. If it goes shortly after sex its usually nothing to worry about.

But as i said i havent while pregnant yet so might be completely different! xx

This happened to me in all pregnancies and was due to a cervical ectropian.

@literarydevil1 did this always happen after you had sex then? As at the moment it seems to be just then which causes the bleeding and then I am fine all the other times

Yes it was up until about 13 weeks. However I have endometriosis and bleeding in pregnancy is more common in this. Once I'd been checked out and told it was an ectropian I relaxed a bit but was only spotting really.

Hi Trixie - I'm about 7 weeks and I've experienced bleeding after sex everytime. It's only when I wipe and is brown ish in colour so I've tried not to panic too much but it's definitely something I'm going to ask about at my booking in apt. It's put me off wanting to have sex a little if I'm honest.

I had a bleed after sex at around 25 weeks, went into hospital to be checked over and they tried to keep me overnight. It was all fine in the end and they explained that with so much more blood flowing around the area it can become quite sensitive and fragile.

I was told to avoid sex for 2 weeks, which could be why you found you bled again a week later. Perhaps the damage hadn't healed? We actually gave it a whole month as it scared me a bit, but I'm 36 weeks now and we've been having regular sex again with no problems at all.

Ah that's put my mind at ease a bit more midwife wants me to speak with EPU again but I'm seeing them on Wednesday for growth scans and I'm away this weekend I'm not too concerned and think it's definitely because of sex a breaks fine with me😂😂😂 maybe not the OH but hell just have to live with it! Haha!!

It can be caused from several things. It is better to go to a doctor and get it checked.

ElderflowerWaterIsDelish · 01/06/2018 11:32

OP you really should book an appointment with the gp or a gynaecologist and have it checked out...I don't want to scare you but I remember a lady on tv giving an interview about being diagnosed with cervical cancer, she hadn't really had any symptoms so didn't know anything was wrong down there, but she did experience bleeding after sex and it was that what made her go to the dr, and they did tests etc and diagnosed her as having cervical cancer...so please don't waste time wondering what is causing it, go and have it checked out

Hi everyone I went to see my midwife today heartbeat is there and everything all fine I've been told that I need to have a chat with the person running my growth scans on Wednesday and they are going to look and see if I need referring as could be cervical ectropian, one thing I know is that it isn't cervical cancer, I am only 21 and had the injection to protect against it,but don't worry I am getting it sorted thanks x
