20 week scan next Tuesday and really nervous

My 20 week scan is next Tuesday (5th).
I've got it into my head that there won't be a heartbeat or something will really be wrong.
Before my 12 week scan I had convinced myself that I'd had a mmc. It was fine and baby was measuring perfectly, brain was forming nicely, as was the heart (beating away) and there was fluid in the stomach which the sonography said was a good sign of things working properly.
Since then I think I have a bit of a bump, but it changes all the time and because I'm plus size, I'm also flabby on my tummy.
I think I may have felt some flutterings that feel like spasms but they're very sporadic.

I'm really anxious Sad

I was exactly the same. The minute I got into the room I said "Just tell me the minute you find a heartbeat". Now 25 weeks weeks and feel her rolls and kicks multiple times a day which is far more reassuring!

There's nothing I can say to reassure you apart from if you've had no severe pain or bleeding, there's such a high chance everything is perfect in there!

Just remember this Smile there's no reason why anything will have turned terrible at the 20 week Scan. You're just anxious and want it to be ok and I'm sure it will be. Good luck xx

I've also had some pinky discharge which the midwife said was normal and lots of cramping which is apparently stretching.

The stretching and discharge is normal. I was crampy pretty much the entire first trimester and some of the second trimester too. Its so worrying because every niggle is a worry until you pass that viability period (and even then).

Have all your tests (bloods, down syndrome etc) come back favourably to ease your mind?

I remember your other thread. The 20 weeks scan is nerve wracking because they look at everything to make sure it’s all forming properly but I’m sure you’ll be fine! Cramping and discharged are very normal at this stage and don’t worry if you don’t feel like you’ve got much of a bump or felt much movement is not a indication of something to worry about

My bump didn't come until 23 weeks I think and even then I think only I could see it 😂 movement depends on where you placenta is too. Mines at the front (anterior) and I couldn’t feel a thing until 21 weeks even tho I saw baby kicking on the scan. I didn’t get a form pattern of movement until 29ish weeks because baby was small enough to move and hide 🙈

Good luck for the scan!!! Are you finding out if it’s a boy or girl? X

CathyandHeathcliff · 27/05/2018 10:29

@LawDegreeBarbie Yes I've had the tests. All low risk.

@PenguinChristmas Thank you for your reassuring reply.
Yes I'm finding out the sex Smile

You're in a good position. You've felt a few movements and everything sounds normal for this stage. Its anxious as hell (I had three private scans before my 12 week dating scan as I was that petrified and wanted to know asap if something was wrong).

Hi Cathy,

My 20 week scan is Monday 4th June, I'm super excited. I did buy a doppler though when I was about 8 weeks pregnant as it reassures me all the time. I can hear a heartbeat very well and I listen a few times a week if I ever get worried. I'm like you though, I just want it to be next week already but just be calm i'm sure everything will be fine. I have had no problems like yourself so just relax and stay cool. I'm counting down the days also! As I am also finding out the sex. Good luck x @CathyandHeathcliff

My anomaly scan is on the 5th too and I’m terrified that they are going to say it’s a mmc also. I’m trying to not focus on it too much but definitely easier said than done!

I can relate. I dont really have a bump, just look like I've eaten too many pies. I cant tell if I've felt flutters or if its just wind and I really just dont feel like there's a baby inside of me so pretty paranoid. My 20w scan is on the 4th June. MMC are so rare at this point so everything crossed for everyone at this same stage.

dolly2909 · 30/05/2018 09:02

I cannot tell you how much reading this has reassured me. I've got my 20 week scan on Friday and have been panicking that there will be something wrong as I haven't felt the baby move and I don't think I'm really showing yet. I felt the same before my 12 week scan and the relief was overwhelming when I saw the little ones heartbeat.

mintich · 30/05/2018 09:08

I get this before each scan! I think it's normal.
I also had pinky discharge in my first pregnancy that was also caused by stretching.
Movement are felt at all different times. My 1st pregnancy was 23 weeks with anterior placenta, but this pregnancy 21 weeks with posterior placenta. Some of my friends felt movements at 16 weeks so everyone's different
