Help! Thrush is ruining my life

I’m 4+2 so very early days but for the last 3 days I’ve had the most painful, irritating thrush I’ve ever know. I can’t sleep, can hardly walk, I’ve got enlarged glands in my groin from the infection and it sounds dramatic but have had so many tears! Tried sudocreme, canestan cream and now using a flannel packed with ice. Have a pessary to use tonight so really hoping that works. Any other suggestions? I appreciated this seems dramatic but it’s really excritiating!

I know how you feel. I'm 37 weeks and have had it all the way through Sad
The pessary worked for about 5 days relief.
Don't really have an answer but wanted to let you know you're not alone, I know how you feel.

Oh Yolo I’m so sorry to hear you’ve had it for that long, it must be hell for you! I’ve read that Wright’s Coal Tar Soap is good for thrush so I’ll try it tomorrow and report back if it’s worth buying xx

Really feel for you currently 31 weeks and had thrush for third time since April the pessary works wonders for about 5-10 days 😒the only relief I found in between was also a flannel and currently avoiding baths in case that’s bringing it on

Frenchiemamax · 11/05/2018 16:45

Cherry it’s unbearable isn’t it I just can’t seem to get relief from it. Have just spent 30 mins with ice and a flannel and do feel a little better but don’t know how long it’ll last!

Just had my midwife phone to tell me it was in my urine sample so got to go and give in another one tomorrow. I'll let you know if they give anything that helps with it. Fingers crossed

Try taking some high dose, good quality probiotics and cutting out anything with sugar/yeast.

Also, natural yoghurt- it's very soothing, if a bit messy!

aetw · 11/05/2018 19:34

Cut out refined carbs, all sugar, just drink water. Don’t eat mushrooms or anything with yeast in it like bread or pizza dough. Limit fruit.
Eat lots of garlic. Natural yogurt. Go to shops to get acidophilus capsules. Try if you can to not wear knickers around the house and just a loose skirt.
Wash every towel in your house. Change regularly. Bless you, it’s hell I know! Xxx

Are you sure it's thrush? Enlarged glands and pain so bad you can't walk doesn't sound like it tbh. I'd go to a doctor and stop trying the home remedies in case it's something more serious and you're making it worse

The daily Canneston pessarys. 6 in a pack I think. You are likely to get a day at the end where you can miss a day then repeat. Watch out for gps prescribing a large pessary instead of 6 small, they regularly made this error. Used this to keep it at bay for months! Nothing else worked. And believe me I tried everything as I had two pregnancies like this.

Frenchiemamax · 11/05/2018 19:43

Thanks for the suggestions all. Whittling saw the GP today which is where I got the canestan and pessary from, she said definitely thrush and the enlarged glands are from the infection

Stop eating sugar/syrup of any sort, right now. If you can manage it, don't eat any processed white flour in anything, either. It will help the meds do their job faster.

GingerGetThePopcorn · 11/05/2018 20:08

Sorry to hear that, it sounds awful. I had a couple of bouts of thrush when I was pregnant but nothing like what you're describing. If the canesten and pessary don't help, please do get yourself back to the GP and don't be fobbed off with people saying it's normal!

Thanks for these tips I really appreciate them!

Go to the doctor and do repeat predators for a good few days. It’s not a silver bullet but it does make it disappear for a bit longer. I’m 32 weeks. Had thrush pretty much constantly from week 7- 20. The repeat predators helped. Wish I’d done it sooner.

I still get it every few weeks tbh. Big cotton pants really help. Annoyingly lots of maternity stuff has Lycra in it which makes it worse for me. I change into my pyjama bottoms as soon as I get home now as they don’t set it off.

Good luck !

VanGoghsLeftEar · 12/05/2018 10:50

I had it for months once and nothing shifted it. I went to a health food shop (Baldwin's, Elephant & Castle) who advised taking a supplement called acidophilus. It worked! Also, don't wear pants or pj bottoms in bed, and avoid putting highly perfumed things in your bath or use same in the shower.

Thank you all xx
