H&M maternity wear

Any good?
I've been struggling to find larger size maternity wear, bottoms in particular. I've never shopped at H&M but understand that their sizing can be a bit erratic?

Also, if anyone could tell me how long the leg length on H&M trousers is, that'd be fantastic - fat and tall is apparently not a thing Hmm

Well I'm 5ft 6 and tried some maternity jeans on in H&M yesterday and they looked great but were far far too long, so you might be in luck on length. I do find their sizing erratic so took a few sizes into the changing rooms but actually the skinny jeans I tried were pretty standard size so I fit into a 12 which is my normal size. Previously I've had to buy size 16 jeans from there to get them to fit (pre-pregnancy)!

SophieE1987 · 04/05/2018 18:04

Depending on what size you are (I’m a small 18 on top, 20/22 on the bottom) some of their normal range stuff is bloody massive and some is tiny, they seem to have lots of jersey dresses in atm and big blousey tops - I’m not sure about trousers sorry but definitely have a mooch and try stuff on - try ASOS as well, they do up to size 20 in maternity and from my experience of buying their (non-maternity) trousers they’re super long

@rubberducker I'm 6"1' and struggle with leg length - I usually shop in Next in the tall range but their maternity range doesn't go long enough (only up to 31" inside leg, I need a 33" at least, preferably 34"!)

@SophieE1987 I am a size 20-22 bottom currently (planned to lose weight before getting pregnant but it happened very quickly!!) My current plan is cropped trousers/jeans for spring/summer (fortunately I can be quite casual at work if necessary) and then leggings and tunic type tops/skater dresses for the winter when I'm really big!

I wonder if H&M stock maternity in store 🤔 nowhere else seems to!

I've been in 2 H&Ms recently that stocked maternity. I bought a pair of dark blue skinnies, over bump, £24.99 - AMAZING. I love them. I'm 5'8 and they are long on me. Not ludicrous, but definitely longer than shorter.

Not tried any other H&M stuff, but I've worn these trousers daily (doing a quick evening wash and dry when needed!) and I'm not planning on getting trousers anywhere else now. Prob need to buy a second pair to see me through the next 4 months!

I'd totally recommend these ones at least!

It was a couple of years ago, but my local H&M stocked maternity wear. Not a huge range, tbf, but enough to try on for size. That said, the sizing seems really random! I bought tops and vests from H&M but got jeans from JoJo Maman Bebe, too late to really enjoy them!

I'll do a bit of digging tomorrow - I don't have a local store so will make a few phone calls and have a shopping trip elsewhere if necessary!

That was my plan too - oops!

My nearest H&M is Cribbs in Bristol and they have a big maternity area in a medium size store so I would have thought they’d have plenty of stores with stock - would be interested to know how you you get on - good luck - I’m due in December so planning the same kinds of outfits

welshweasel · 04/05/2018 18:28

I’m almost 6 foot and found my H&M mat jeans a perfect length. I did have to go up a size though. GAP brilliant for long sleeved tops that are nice and long too.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 04/05/2018 18:31

@SophieE1987 That's good to know, thanks! Bristol or Exeter are my nearest options, Bristol is a bit further but I will be having appointments at St Mike's hosp every 4 weeks (nice 150 mile round trip!) so could combine the two!

@welshweasel thanks - I've never shopped in GAP either so will have a look there!

At 5'10 H&M was the only place I could find long enough maternity jeans on the high street. My local one does do in store, but it's a pretty small selection. Their sizing is erratic, and not generous. I love my jeans and tops from there (and also picked up a couple of nice dresses), but all the non-jean trousers in my local store were made of horrid shiny fabric.

BoudicasBoudoir · 04/05/2018 18:38

I have three pairs of their maternity ‘joggers’ which I’ve been living in for the last few months. Haven’t tried jeans etc.
The joggers are the comfiest I found (better than ASOS maternity or Dorothy Perkins) and great for hanging round the house.
I bought XL for my first pair because I thought I would need it (pre-pregnancy size 18) but have actually had to go down a size as they are so big they keep falling off. Length fine on me: I’m 5 foot 9, so not as tall as you, but proportionally have long legs.

Ruddyuseless · 04/05/2018 18:49

Some of the bigger stores have mat wear otherwise it's all online

But it's great! Super comfy jeans especially their over bump ones

zaalitje · 04/05/2018 18:50

If you're tall avoid the tights, plenty of bump room but made for ladies no taller than 5'4".

AnotherOriginalUsername · 04/05/2018 19:07

@zaalitje fortunately I'm not a tights wearer, I'm more of a leggings and converse kind of girl! (Currently trying to justify buying a pair in yellow, just because I don't have a yellow pair yet...)

H&M in Birmingham city centre do not have maternity wear in store. None of the shops do, it's really frustrating! I just thought I'd mention this in case anyone nearby was thinking of popping in for a shopping trip. I've had to order everything online Hmm

AnotherOriginalUsername · 04/05/2018 19:18

Well I've had a spontaneous massive allergic reaction to the work trousers I've been wearing for the last 12 months problem free Hmm so it looks like I might be having a bit of a credit card based shopping spree tonight!

I wore lots of H&M maternity wear second time round. The jeans were great. The sizing is all of the place so you do need to try on. I'm size 16 and 5' 9" and some stuff was massive on. I was amazed how few places sold maternity wear. Have fun shopping.

Peanut91 · 04/05/2018 19:28

I have bought quite a few things from H&M and have found the quality to be really nice. I have found their tops to be true to size but I was very surprised when I tried on their maternity shorts and I could only just fit in their size 16 as I am usually a 12 on bottoms and 10 on top

preggersteach · 04/05/2018 19:46

I bought jeans which were fab, a couple of tops and a dress and all gave been fine but the leggings are ridiculously long and they kind of go out at the ankles so I've had to buy some elastic to put under my feet with them to make them fit better x

Grumpos · 04/05/2018 20:01

You generally have to go to H&M kids or the stores with kids sections to get the maternity wear. I’ve been a few times and I only just noticed a sign on my last visit which states something along the lines of “go one size bigger for 1/2 trimester and 2 sizes bigger for 3rd” - I’m totally paraphrasing bc I can’t remember if it said weeks / mths / trimesters but it has worked for me. I am a 12 usually but bought size 14 maternity jeans and they are a really good fit. I like that the bump band is tighter than other brands ie New Look - which just sags and rolls down! H&M ones seem to hug more. I’m going to invest in another pair!

WingerGitch · 04/05/2018 20:03

My h & m had a rubbish selection, I found a wider range in Debenhams!

FranticallyPeaceful · 04/05/2018 21:26

Yoursclothing.co.uk have the comfiest leggings known to man. Also their other stuff is really rather nice and very comfortable

Thetimehascometo · 05/05/2018 00:05

I have gone with JoJo mama jeans and then tops from a mix of places- mothercare, H&M, more JoJo. H&M have been good for tops 😊
