Fresh red blood at 9 weeks

Hi all. I’ve been having brown discharge since week 5. At first I was worried but got used to it. Four days ago I was lying down and felt a gush of warm stuff, I ran to the bathroom, wiped and saw fresh red blood. I thought I had lost the baby there and then. Husband and toddler came to A and E with me and waited two hours Angry

Doc tested urine, said it was still showing that I was pregnant and said someone from epu would call me in the morning to arrange a scan. That night all of my symptoms went: no more sore breasts, no more feeling sick. I was so worried and feared the worse. EPU called and said to come in the next day (2days after bleed) I was beside myself with worry and braced myself for the worst.

So day of scan scheduled at 11:30, so they saw me at 12:30. Expected worse but the saw a strong heartbeat in scan! However, they couldn’t find why or where the blood was coming from. Went home feeling reassured.

Fast forward 2 days after scan (today) and I’ve had another gush of bright red blood. I’m so worried all over again and not sure what to do. I can’t spend my life in epu.

Hope you are ok, it's so worrying isn't it? Did they do a speculum? I had bleeding like this and they had a look and found a polyp.
Hope the bleeding stops x

No they just did a scan and couldn’t find where the bleeding was coming from. Said both ovaries were fine. Had a week of work as a had a bad cold but dreading going in next week. Feel like I need to lie down and keep baby safe.

Oh, sympathies, been there. It’s horrible.

With mine midwife thought it was a subchorionic haematoma that they hadn’t picked up on the scan. (Have had one before in another pregnancy that was, similar terrifying bleeding.) That pattern of brown bleeding, red gush, more brown bleeding does sound like an SCH - and if it’s that then the good news is that they’re generally harmless to the baby.

MotherTruckerrr · 27/04/2018 11:40

Google subchorionic haematoma. I had this with both my pregnancies. It was terrifying and I became a recluse as I dreaded it happening while I was out! But Both are absolutely fine. Speak to your midwife/consultant about SCH and maybe ask them to look for bleeds in a scan.

It’s a fun boat to be in isn’t it 53rd!

I was the same I stayed in bed mostly and didn't want to make any sudden movements. They didn't give me a scan they listened to the heartbeat which was fine and then said that it was most likely due to intercourse the day before and that as there is loads of blood flowing down there it is usually down to this but that a doctor would do a speculum just to be sure. When they did the speculum they could see the polyp which is apparently really common in pregnancy due to the hormones (I'd only recently had a smear in Nov so was surprised it was this). I had it removed two weeks ago and haven't had any bleeding since.

I would go back if I was you just to put your mind at ease.

I had similar and then again a massive fish of blood at 14 weeks. At that point they said I had a low lying placenta which would have been the causes. As it usually moves by 20 weeks they don’t tend to tell you before your 20 week scan if it’s an issue but they told me as a causes and put me in a special pathway.

mindutopia · 27/04/2018 12:38

I would rest and try not to worry and if you would feel reassured go back for another scan. I had exactly this in both my healthy pregnancies. With my first, a gush exactly like you describe around 10 weeks. With my second, I spotted and bled (heavy enough to soak through clothes) for 2 weeks (7-9 weeks). Both totally healthy pregnancies and I never had any more bleeding after 1st tri. No obvious sign it came from my uterus and it was assumed to be a burst blood vessel on my cervix. It was stressful but perfectly harmless. To be fair, I didn’t have any bleeding really when I had a mmc, so for me just one of those things that happens in pregnancy. Fingers crossed it’s the same for you.

Thanks ladies, feeling much better reading this. Gp is meant to ring me today. I really don’t want to spend my life at epu! Checked just and it’s not heavy anymore

GP has booked me in for a scan next Wed. I’m not in any pain and other ladies stories have given me hope so I’m just trying to get on with things. Hopefully baby will be fine and they might find a SCH, polyp or random thing that is causing bleeding. Thanks for your support 😌

Had two more major bleeds since and was worried 😟
Had scan and there was baby waving at me! Sonnographer and nurse said all
Is fine. Still
Have brown each time I wipe but looks like it’s the norm for me.

So glad the little one is still cooking away. Bleeds are horrible, but don’t always mean the worst. In the end I was told unless I get pain with the bleeding, not to worry too much

BakingaBunInTheOven · 02/05/2018 21:28

True MotherTruckerrr, I’m bleeding lightly again and it looks like it’s going to happen throughout the pregnancy. No pain, baby was dancing and waving. Peeved though, surely the one perk of pregnancy should be not having to have sanitary towels handy!
