Okay, so. My last period was maybe slightly abnormal, started a day late with a bit of spotting at first, got heavier then bled on and off for my usual sorta 3 - 4 day period. Last Sunday I'd just came off my period.
On Wednesday night I went to bed with some mild stomach pains, wouldn't describe it as 'cramps'. More like when you have a stomach bug almost like I needed to go to the toilet. Like I say it was only mild so I just ignored it. Thursday night, I was in work, the pain had got worse I kept getting sudden pains in my lower back and stomach. At about 9 - 10pm I felt something in my knickers like I'd started my period again. Went to the toilet and sure enough I had blood in my pants, and a fair bit of it. Not like period blood, but bright red and quite watery. (Sorry for the TMI 🙈) I had no pads or tampons with me as i had came off my period just days before so I popped some tissue in my pants, not ideal, but I'm sure we've all had to do it an emergency. Then I just got on with my night at work and worked through the pain.
By 11 o clock I'd got home and was still in pain. Not excruciating, but enough for me to need ibuprophen and a lie down. Was still bleeding quite heavy. Next morning I was much the same so I went down to the doctors. I spoke to the doctor on the phone before I went down, he told me to take a pregnancy test before I came in, just to rule out a miscarriage. I told him I would, but it was impossible I could be pregnant as i had only had unprotected sex once in my last cycle (we usually use condoms) and I'd went and got the morning after pill straight away the next morning. Anyway I nip in the chemist across the road from the docs before I went in. Go to the toilet in the waiting room, and do the test, it was positive! I was in total shock and just burst into tears when I went into see the doctor. He reckons I'd have been about 3 or 4 weeks along, and probably having a miscarriage, he had a feel of my tummy and then suggested I go straight to a & e. He gave me a letter to hand to the people at a&e, which stated I'd either had a miscarriage or suspected ectopic pregnancy.
Got to the hospital, they did a pregnancy test which came out negative. So I was temporarily relieved thinking maybe this was all just a side effect of the morning after pill. Plus the cramps and the bleeding had started to subside. They also wanted to do a blood test just to be doubly sure that I wasn't pregnant. They sent me home and said they'd call me when they had the results. They called me that evening, the blood test tested positive. So I was pregnant, however they said the level of hcg detected was relatively low. So they thought it was more likely to have been a miscarriage. They said they would make an appointment for me to have a transvaginal scan anyway just to rule out an ectopic pregnancy, (which is tommorow morning). In the meantime I was advised to get a few pregnancy tests and to test each day, between Friday when I went in and Tuesday. If I get a negative result, they said there's really no point in me coming in for a scan, as it's most likely a miscarriage, and if it is, they expect I'll get a negative within days, as my hcg was quite low and I'd have only been 4 weeks along.
Anyway, I have been testing, using the same brand, testing at a similar time each day. I'm still getting positives. And they're not getting fainter either. I'm now really worried I might be having an ectopic pregnancy as suspected. I have been advised by he hospital to be alert for any pain in my shoulder, sharp stomach pains, heavy bleeding etc. I feel well in myself, but I am totally on edge as I know a burst Fallopian tube can be really serious (Google has had me terrified! 🙈) could there be any other explanation for the symptoms I've described? Has anyone else been through something similar? Sorry this post is so looong, I thought I'd better include all the details so I could perhaps get a better explantion. Hopefully I'll know what's going on once and for all tommorow!
