Gestational sac at 5 weeks

Hi I just had a transvaginal ultrasound because of some spotting. They can see a sac and a yolk sac. The gestational sac was 7 x 3.3mm so she said the average is 5mm. I am 5weeks5days ago but my cycle can be up to 32days.

Does anyone have an experience about the size of the sac. The sonographer was not concerned but I can’t help but worry.

What was the size of your bubba at the first ultrasound

I would only expect to see a sac at that stage, the 'bubba' would barely be an embryo - poppy seed sized at best.

The sac is just the thing that the foetus will grow in. And tbh it's way too early to tell with certainty what's going in. Best wait until about 8 weeks.

I had an early ultrasound at 6 weeks where I was told by a nurse that there was a heartbeat but the sac was small and I would need another scan at 9 weeks.

So I spent 3 weeks worrying and the 9 week scan fell on my partner's 30th birthday so I was also worried about getting bad news and ruining the day.

Anyway I nervously went to the second scan where I saw a consultant. I explained what the nurse had said at the 6 week scan and quite honestly she seemed surprised I was even sent for the second scan. She said the size of the sac makes no odds, all that counts is the heartbeat. She gave me the second scan anyway and all was fine.

I know it's hard not to worry though!

I honestly think early ultrasounds can bring more worry than reassurance.

I had the same scan roughly around a similar time. I'm not 100% sure how far I am but now I imagine I'm about 8 weeks (My periods were messed up due to a MC 3 months ago). The nurse told me she thought I would have been around 6wks at the time and there were a fetal pole and heart beat present. The fetal pole measured 2.48mm at the time. A few days can make a whole difference! 7 days before seeing the heartbeat, there wasn't even anything to see, just a sac! Maybe try and ask for another scan x

I had a scan at the same gestation and there was nothing visible except an empty sac - no yolk sac. I had to go back after 10 days and there was a foetus with a heartbeat.
