TittyGolightly · 08/04/2018 15:29

I did. Generally from the Toby Carvery I frequented rather than ice cream vans.

SavoyCabbage · 08/04/2018 15:36

No I wouldn't and I was quite lax with pregnancy rules.

RNBrie · 08/04/2018 15:37

Yes I would and I did.

dementedpixie · 08/04/2018 15:38

If it's McDonald's mcflurry/ice cream, then yes. I probably wouldn't if it was from an ice cream van

chickywoo · 08/04/2018 15:40

I wouldn’t worry about the ice cream it’s when you see the scruffy ice cream man with grimy jeans on that will be touching the cone Shock

chickywoo · 08/04/2018 15:41

Pregnant or not !

usernamegoeshere · 08/04/2018 16:06

I don't from ice cream vans but I think Mcflurrys are fine

surreygirl1987 · 08/04/2018 16:18

Oh! Why can't we eat ice cream from ice cream vans?! Is ice cream from ice cream parlours okay? I've just been on holiday and eaten loads of ice creams! 🙈

Lastoftheusernames · 08/04/2018 16:20

I've never heard of anyone getting listeria from a whippy ice cream so the chances of it causing illness are tiny. That said, I didn't have one whilst pregnant just in case!

dementedpixie · 08/04/2018 16:23

It's more the soft serve ice creams from dodgy machines you might find in an ice cream van. A reputable shop is likely to clean their equipment regularly so not as much of an issue

4yoniD · 08/04/2018 16:38

I caved once with dd2. Decided it was worth the risk once! I suspect the risk is tiny ... although obviously still there.

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 08/04/2018 16:38

Yeah I would and probably will at some point. I’m pretty relaxed on the whole.

Oblomov18 · 08/04/2018 16:42

I did. I think the risk is minuscule.

TiggeryBear · 08/04/2018 16:56

Currently 25+4 with DC2 & just ate a whippy🍦from the ice cream van that came down our road. 😋 (Lived here just over 2 years & not seen one come down here before!)
Ate it frequently when pregnant with DD too. (Both from ice cream van & McFlurries (other soft serve ice creams too!))
But then I also eat rare steak, deli meats & brie (I do make sure it's pasteurized though) so perhaps I'm not the best person to advise.

SamanthaH92 · 08/04/2018 16:59

Ate it a lot when pregnant with DD1, craving it with DD2 now as well. Never knew you weren't ment to!

FranticallyPeaceful · 08/04/2018 17:13

Ikea ice cream machine, McDonald’s ice cream machine, ice cream vans, etc... I’ll eat it all. Third pregnancy and never avoided it. Ice cream is one of the few things that helps perk me up on bad days

dementedpixie · 08/04/2018 17:20

Its not actually on the nhs avoid list tbh

Girlwiththearabstrap · 08/04/2018 18:53

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/foods-to-avoid-pregnant/#milk-yoghurt-and-ice-cream

It is not on the NHS list of foods to avoid and the NHS is very cautious.
I dont know if it's just increased use of forums/Facebook groups etc but I feel like food/health anxiety in pregnancy really seems to be increasing. The NHS list generally errs on the side of caution so is a wise one to follow if you're anxious or want to keep up to date.

Namechangemum100 · 08/04/2018 19:06

My thoughts on what foods you can and cannot eat during pregnancy are that given that chicken and lettuce are some of the most common causes of food poisoning...and nobody is worried about eating those...I would just crack on with eating as much Mr whippy as you like.

surreygirl1987 · 08/04/2018 20:06

Goody :)

BertrandRussell · 08/04/2018 20:09

My ds is practically made of Crunchy McFlurries!

anyfreeusernames · 08/04/2018 20:48

I haven’t eaten ice cream van ice cream since I was a child. I contracted listeria and was in hospital for over a week, it was grim. That’s probably rare though and it was the nineties when I imagine H&S was a lot more lax... I still can’t bring myself to risk it though.
