Hi, I'm 41, and 4w 4d pregnant. Trying not to get too excited yet as I know it's high risk.
Any other 40+ people out there? How are you getting on?

Hi everyone, it's gone a little quiet in here so hope that means everyone is ok? I'm currently convinced that I'm carrying twins as while I am relatively symptom free at the moment I'm showing, which really isn't normal at 6+4 right?! Although I have been wondering if I'm actually 10+4 because when I think it about my period was a bit lighter than normal in March so could have been implantation bleeding, although I would be surprised as I wouldn't call it light. I have a few sets of twins in my family and am 43 so maybe just wishful thinking as good odds though?!

TinyTerror1 · 17/04/2018 17:52

Hi penguin. I was convinced I was having twins for a bit - not quite as early as you! - but I'm slightly relieved to just be having the one. The whole idea is daunting enough! I decided to have a go at watching One Born Every Minute earlier (on catch-up) for the first time ever and it has not given me any sort of confidence about the birthing process 😨

Cleozeta · 17/04/2018 19:58

I also have twins in my family, but I don't think mine is. Apparently symptoms are a lot stronger with twins, particularly nausea. I don't have much of that (didn't in my other pregnancies either so not expeccting it), although my belly has got bigger already, I think it's bloating, but finding my normal clothes restrictive. Penguin did you do a clear blue digital test at all? That would have given you a clue as to when you conceived. Are you getting an early scan? Odds are higher for twins if in the family, plus age!
Tiny - I watched OBEM earlier too!! Not been able to watch it when ttc as it was to depressing, and I won't be able to watch it after Friday if scan does not go well so thought I'd use this slot!! It's lovely to watch, and it does show a wide variety of experiences. I had a difficult birth with my first, and a planned c section with my second. Will need to decide weather to do another planned C, or a v back if this pregnancy (fingers crossed) continues.
Will this be your first Tiny?

Well twins are more likely when you get to our age! I always wanted twins but that was before I had one and I don't think I could cope. I'm assuming it's not for me as you can tell from HCG blood test and mine wasn't high. I had a tiny spot of pink in my CM last night which sent me into a panic. Worst time of day for it to happen, just as I was going to bed and it sent me into a frenzy. I barely slept 😖 nothing since. I'm still getting period type pains now and again, anyone else?
I have the new series of OBEM on the planner! I haven't been able to watch it whilst TTC. If I get through my scan on Saturday I might start watching it!

sparklyglitterball · 17/04/2018 20:58

Hi ladies, I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant with baby number 3, aged 41. I know cleo and jo jo from the ttc thread. I had my first scan today, and so far so good! Nuchal fold measurement was low at 1.5mm. So we still need to wait for the bloods to get the overall risk, but I'm feeling pretty hopeful so far. I hope the first trimester goes smoothly and quickly for those that are at that stage. I've found it tough - really nauseous and exhausted for weeks. Finally feeling more human now. X

Cleozeta · 18/04/2018 07:45

Hi Jojo I hope the spotting has not come back? It's apparently completely normal to have a bit, but I know how worrying and stressful that must be for you! Only a few days till the scan
Sparkly - congrats on a great scan! That must be such a releif to get to that point Smile good luck with the rest of the results, sounds like it will be absolutely fine

Hi Cleo yes it's my first. Never thought I'd have kids, only met my husband just over 2 years ago! So we've been lucky in conceiving so fast and I feel grateful for that. Finding the whole thing somewhat overwhelming though! Think I might stick to glossing over the whole birth process for another 15 weeks or so Confused
Jojo - hopefully the tiny amounts of spotting are nothing. I had 3 or 4 tiny episodes in the first 12 weeks which made me panic a bit each time but as Cleo said it is supposed to be quite normal.
Sparkly - congrats on getting this far - that first scan must have been a relief Smile However be warned you are likely to come back high risk for Down's just based on your age so don't get too stressed out if that happens xx

Cleozeta · 18/04/2018 12:08

Tiny - try not to overthink the birth process, it's soon forgotten once you have your baby in your arms!

JoJoyorker · 18/04/2018 14:16

Yes it seemed to be a one off, nothing else since. I was convinced I would wake in the night bleeding 😞
Sparkly nice to see you here. Congratulations on the scan, all sounds very positive. The 12 weeks seems to have gone quickly!

penguingirl · 18/04/2018 21:07

haha! yes, very good odds! I did a bit of reading earlier though, and it sounds like it may just be extreme bloat. hopefully not tmi but I have ibs and have been quite constipated on and off the last couple of weeks so that may be exacerbating the bloat. also, I have had momentary feelings of nausea and being a bit 'gaggy' but nothing major, so looks like wishful thinking on my part. it would be an awesome result for me, being 43 and having had a miscarriage last time this really feels like my last chance to be a mum, so twins would be lovely. no biggie if not though of course! any kind of successful pregnancy would be amazing.
jojo- I've read up on this a lot, the general consensus seems to be that some light bleeding/spotting in pregnancy is not only common but actually pretty normal. really happy for you it seems to have been a one off, as no matter how many times you read/hear it's normal I know the anxiety often keeps you worrying. while I haven't had any bleeding I've had a lot of cramping and mild pain in different areas so the bleeding thing comes up when you read up around all that.

penguingirl · 18/04/2018 21:11

cleo, my original 2 positives were from poundland tests, haha! although in a moment of dimwittery I got a clear blue pack on tuesday, as I was trying to see if I'd mistaken implantation bleeding for period in march so 4 weeks further than I thought.... didn't realise they just say 3+ if you're anything more than 3 weeks, doh! although it was lovely having the positives from the 'non-value' kit :-D and I loved that the one with the cross showed as a strong cross literally 5 seconds after I dipped it!

penguingirl · 18/04/2018 21:15

Tiny, I might just have to watch that, I've never seen it. It almost feels like that part of it is going to happen to someone else as with this pregnancy I'm just deeply entrenched in the here and now and maybe a little bit in what will happen in a week or 3, but no further ahead than that. Not through choice, just how my brain is choosing to work right now. Like you I never thought I'd have kids, partly through not being maternal but mostly it turns out because I just hadn't met someone that I wanted to make children with! I'm not married (working on it ha!) but have also been with my partner for a bit over 2 years :-)

JoJoyorker · 19/04/2018 22:19

Cleo I hope your scan goes well tmrw! Lots of luck and will be thinking of you.

Cleozeta · 20/04/2018 09:13

Saw a lovely heartbeat. Phew! The dates were a few days behind, but sonographer was not concerned, she said it's hard to get it fully accurate as it's so tiny at this stage. Measured at 7mm.
Good luck with yours tomorrow jojo Smile

Ahh brilliant news!! What a relief. Thank you, will let you know. Am so nervous.

TinyTerror1 · 20/04/2018 18:21

Oh fabulous! So pleased for you Cleo 😊

Good luck tomorrow Jojo 🍀

I've got a scan on Monday, at 16 weeks, to check baby is ok after my CVS. Beginning to stress a little...

JoJoyorker · 21/04/2018 10:49

All ok here ☺️ saw a nice heart beat and all measuring ok for 7 wks. Good luck for Monday tiny terror, let us know.

TinyTerror1 · 21/04/2018 11:28

Fab news Jojo! You must be so relieved 😊

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm trying to stay calm there's no real reason for anything to have gone wrong. For some reason having a scan imminently is making me nervous, possibly because my 12-week one didn't go to plan 🤔 I just need to stop worrying and enjoy the sunshine! X

penguingirl · 21/04/2018 12:08

Awww, lots of lovely news to catch up on here, congrats Cleo and JoJo and good luck for Monday Tiny.
I saw a obstetric physiotherapist yesterday morning as I have horrendous sciatica and back pain, she was absolutely lovely and gave me some exercises and advice so hoping the pain will ease off soon.
I've had a scary evening/morning as had some spotting (brown blood in cervical mucous rather than red blood) and some really nasty cramps like onset of period type, but have been really reassured by the amount of people on here having the same problems but having a good outcome when you search the forums.

Cleozeta · 21/04/2018 12:28

Great news jojo! So pleased for you Smile
I think I was a bit behind on my dates for ovulation as I had a second and more prominant dip and spike in temps 4 days after my initial one so I wasn't sure which day I had actually ov'd. Looks like it was the second. Either way a few days difference is not a worry. Have booked in for the harmony test on 18th May and will get another scan then. It's definitely reassuring to see a lovely heartbeat!
Good luck with yours Tiny!
Hope your spotting goes soon penguin, it must be nerve wrecking, but as you say, fairly common and does not necessarily mean anything bad. How far along are you?

OP posts:
JoJoyorker · 21/04/2018 13:14

Cleo I've got my harmony booked for 14th May. Oh no penguin it's such a worry when you see that. I had brown spotting at 11 weeks and further along with my first, cant remember how many weeks the second time. I had a scan both times and all was okay. They said it was old blood. I'm sure it's all fine but if you are worried I'm sure they will see you.

TinyTerror1 · 23/04/2018 12:49

Just back from my post-CVS scan at 16 weeks. Baby looks gorgeous and no abnormalities seen. I'm having a little girl! So excited can't wait to meet her 😊😍

Cleozeta · 23/04/2018 12:55

How exciting Tiny!!! So pleased for you Smile
