Anyone else NOT hungry in pregnancy?

I keep reading threads about starving pregnant women knawing the hind legs off a donkey each day, and wondered if anyone else was the opposite?

I'm 13+1 with twins. I've had HG which seems to be wearing off a bit, although I'm still on anti sickness meds. I'm just not hungry! I am in the morning for some cereal, but then after that I just have no idea what I want. I've gone off nearly everything I enjoyed eating. Even toast nauseates me and I love toast!

I had some curry and chips from Chinese last night (weirdly craving chips which I barely ate before) they were delicious, but I get so full so fast that I struggled to eat them!

Anybody else out there in the same boat? It's honestly driving me crazy. Surely my babies should want me scoffing so they can steal all my nutrients?Confused

You don't need to eat extra, I was never particularly hungry when I was pregnant but I also suffered with sickness until week 16. Even after that I only enjoyed a few things like chicken and sweet corn soup from the Chinese and could only drink like juice.

muffyduffster · 23/03/2018 07:18

I'm ravenous in the daytime but can't face anything at dinner time. I figure it evens out!

GlitterRollerSkate · 23/03/2018 07:27

Last time I was pregnant I really struggled to eat and with HG. Think there was only about 2 months in the middle where I wasn't sick. Lo is perfectly healthy.

This time though I have eaten EVERYTHING!!! I literally cannot stop eating. Nothing is safe Blush

Apparently both the same gender too.

isthismummy · 23/03/2018 07:30

Oh I know I don't need to eat extra Bananarama I'm just sick of never fancying anything. I'm not a big eater anyway, but I do like my food. Now there just nothing that takes my fancySad Perhaps it is the sickness. Love the fact you were living for the Chinese tooGrin

Yup. Have HG, thankfully easing now (only three vomiting sessions a day on average.) in this and previous pregnancy I had zero interest in food and had to force myself to eat. No cravings, only strong aversions.

There’s new research out showing that genes associated with hg are also associated with cachexia so I wonder if there’s a link there?

isthismummy · 23/03/2018 07:38

That's interesting research Anatidae it would definitely explain the HG food aversions.

Glad your vomiting is easing up a bit now. HG really is the pits.

I went through a month or so when I could barely look at food and lived on cheese and crackers. When we went on holiday I would just stare at menus and get tearful because I couldn't find anything on them that I thought I could face Blush DH must have had a great time on that holiday Grin

Bananarama12 · 23/03/2018 07:44

My DP went to Chinese for me every night for a while because it was the only thing I could stomach 😂

GlitterRollerSkate · 23/03/2018 07:44

@isthismummy It honestly is. I really feel for you! But it is worth it and you will get through it. (This may have become my mantra! Hmm) Evidently you must get over it as number 2 is almost cooked! Grin

I remember stopping at some traffic lights on the way home from work. Had to open the door and vomit. Wasn't sure what to do so just drove off when the lights went green!

If there is anything you fancy get it! I lived off MacDonald's burgers last time. It was the only thing I could eat. I found sprite good for some sugar and it wasn't too terrible to throw back up.

Zogthebiggestdragon · 23/03/2018 07:53

I don't get hungry when I'm pregnant and it's not even linked to sickness, I'm just not terribly hungry. It happened in my first pregnancy and again this time (39 weeks right now). It does fluctuate so sometimes I can eat a full size meal and other times not really. I just try to eat something three times a day (easier this time as I eat at the same time as my daughter).
Tell the midwife if you're worried about your weight but in my case very low weight gain doesn't seem to be a problem as I was a bit chunky beforehand. But with twins you'll probably need to be a bit more careful!

Anatidae · 23/03/2018 08:16

You don't need to eat extra,

For a singleton pregnancy with a mum who starts at a healthy weight you don’t for the first part then you just need an extra couple of hundred kcal a day. It’s no biggie if you don’t unless you’re of a lower weight to start with. I left the hospital lighter than when I conceived.

For multiples though you do: ‘guidelines say you should consume 300 extra calories per day in the first trimester, 680 in the second trimester and 900 in the third’ for twins. It’s basjcally 300kcal ish a day on average per baby.

So for multiple pregnancies the rules are a bit different and aversions can make things harder.

Hg just sucks on all levels!

hotchocolate86 · 23/03/2018 08:28

I have HG that’s easing slightly too and no appetite. I force myself to eat a little bit every couple of hours as now I’m having better days it seems to help ease my nausea slightly. I’m still being sick on at least one occasion a day though and often more so it really does put you off eating.

isthismummy · 23/03/2018 08:50

Wow, I didn't realise that was the calorie guidelines for twins. There's no way I'm eating that much! I started off with a bmi of 20, so quite slim to start with.

The babies measured a week ahead at my 12 week scan though (ivf pregnancy)

Literally haven't felt hungry through out the whole of my pregnacy, started of not really fancying anything then as baby got bigger I had no room for lots of food! Thank God baby has now dropped, I'm the hungriest I've been in my pregnancy!

FranticallyPeaceful · 23/03/2018 10:33

Even when I stopped being sick I’m never hungry in pregnancy until I’m in my 20 weeks, then ramps up considerably when I hit 30 weeks.
You’re still early and as it stands your body just probably doesn’t need anything extra

MyKingdomForBrie · 23/03/2018 10:34

I was like that for he first trimester. You may find it changes later on! Don’t worry about it though, I would just try and make what you do eat nutritious.

FallenAngel89 · 23/03/2018 10:36

17 weeks here and never hungry, I feel like I just eat because I know I should. It's all new to me because I LOVE my food 😂 Also everything smells odd to me so that puts me off considerably.

mommybear1 · 23/03/2018 10:45

Hi I was like this all through my pregnancy I was a big girl - size 22 and lost weight to conceive so put it down to that I only gained 7lbs and baby was 6.2 Gringenuinely always thought I'd pig out when pregnant but just never felt hungry I had to force my food down. Hubby helpfully gained pregnancy weight for me Hmm. I stuck to three meals a day small portions and tried to have two healthy snacks like apples or nuts. Congratulations on your pregnancy Thanks

FancyNewBeesly · 23/03/2018 10:46

By week 14 of my twin pregnancy i had lost 9lb. I couldn’t stomach anything. Luckily the sickness and food aversion went after that although I was never ravenous.

Hispterwannabe · 23/03/2018 11:02

Snap! I’m having to force myself to eat more. I’m just trying to eat as much fruit and vegetables as possible.

charlottexox · 23/03/2018 11:04

With DD I was starving constantly and would eat anything and everything!
This time around I'm not very hungry, but will eat. Have had morning sickness this time around though so finding it hard to face foodConfused

Clevs · 23/03/2018 15:47

i had loss of appetite and got full up really quickly in the early days of my pregnancy. I was carrying quite high though and assumed it was just pressure on my stomach causing it. No sickness though, just physically unable to eat huge amounts.

LaurG · 23/03/2018 23:32

I’m 25 weeks and eating normally. I ate a bit more at the start as food was the only thing that stopped me feeling sick. All I wanted until about 15weeks was bread though. Didn’t eat fruit or veg for a long time. Now back to a healthy diet. The only time I notice feeling hungry is after exercise. Ta as if my. It’s knows there’s a deficit and wants recharged.
