Did anyone else sense twins?...

Hey
This is a strange one most likely.
This is my second pregnancy and I feel as though things are a whole lot different. I feel like I'm carrying twins! Did anyone else have this strange feeling?
I'm around 8 weeks pregnant, severe nipple pain, stretching pains (but nothing like the last time), back ache to hell and back, exhaustion etc. On top of the fact I'm already noticeably bigger and pregnant looking already!!
My mum was an identical twin and it's Hereditary...
Do you show sooner in second pregnancy?
Can anyone give me any advice. I really want to get an early scan but don't know if it's going to be more trouble than it's worth

The only way that you will know is through having a scan

Other people’s anecdotes are completely irrelevant

willisurvive3under2 · 17/02/2018 00:44

Identical twins aren't hereditary. Fraternal twins are.

I sensed twins as I was so so sick. Much more than with my first pregnancy. I joked with DH that maybe it was twins. Had a private scan at 10 weeks, two in there!

Start taking industrial quantities of iron now. I got so wretchedly anaemic and washed out.

There's a bit of a confirmation bias the first too. I would imagine the possibility of twins crosses will the minds of almost everyone who finds out they are pregnant. So the vast majority of us will be wrong and those who are right can look back and say "aha, I knew it".

Having said that, my first trimesters (successful pregnancies after several miscarriages) were all nearly identical in their symptoms and how I felt, so perhaps a big difference in how you feel now compared with your first pregnancy is significant?

Bez9087 · 17/02/2018 07:45

I agree only non identical twins are hereditary.
This is pregnancy number 4 for me, I couldn’t shake the feeling of twins, had more nausea than my other pregnancy’s, got bloated quicker than with the others, joked to dh what would we do if it was twins.... went for an early scan at 7 weeks to find out suspicions was correct and I was indeed pregnant with twins.
I agree though with a pp I think it crosses every pregnant women’s mind but for me I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was definatley two. Our two girls are due in just 5 weeks and I’m so nervous now haha

I thought it was twins with DD2. I felt very sick very early and looked pregnant early too. Nope. 8 week scan showed just one baby in there. I looked big because my stomach muscles had given up the ghost not because there were two babies!

Smellyjo · 17/02/2018 07:56

I sensed twins in my first pregnancy, not for any particular reason, just a feeling, and by time we got to 12 weeks scan I had talked myself out of it thinking I was just being excited first time mum. But they did find a second sack and yolk sac, but no second baby left. It wasn't incredibly sad as I'd never strongly believed it was twins but I thought it was interesting I'd had the strong sense that I was at the start, which later faded.

And as an aside, I am currently feeling shockingly massive at 10 weeks in to second pregnancy. Could be twins I guess but I don't feel it this time, I think it's just the bloat and crap stomach muscles!

Smellyjo · 17/02/2018 08:09

And ps - violetrose - other people's anecdotes are completely irrelevant? Bit harsh? Of course the anecdotes won't tell op what is going to happen but aren't they interesting to read, and is that not the point of MN?!!

ClareB83 · 17/02/2018 08:20

I was adamant it wasn't twins as my symptoms were pretty mild. Nope at 9 weeks there were two babies!!

sexyegg · 17/02/2018 08:27

My sister has twins so my family (and DH) were winding me up saying I was going to have twins. I told them I was pregnant at 5 weeks, I already had morning sickness (first sign) and actually sent a pic of my HPT to my sister so she could tell me if I was seeing things! I got a strong positive days before my period was due Blush that was another sign.

I had a feeling but brushed it off, like what are the chances of me having twins too? Then I had my scan and lo and behold - twins. I nearly pissed myself laughing. I did some googling and apparently non identical twins are hereditary....I didn't know this beforehand.

slippermaiden · 17/02/2018 08:31

I had twins and had no idea until I went for scan. Non identical twins are genetic... meaning the woman chucks out 2 eggs. Identical twins come from one egg and are freaks of nature, meaning it can happen to anyone! Fingers crossed for you!

From a scientific POV @Violetrose123 is actually right! Anecdotal stories should technically be discounted.

But I agree-speculation is fun!!! 😊

user1499786242 · 17/02/2018 09:19

I was sure I was having twins
Looked much bigger and just had a feeling
Worse symptoms

Nope just one baby! Opposite sex so could have been the reason for such different pregnancies?

loveulotslikejellytots · 17/02/2018 09:25

Dh has been joking that I'm having twins this time. I feel worse than when I was pregnant with dd, but this time I'm chasing a 2 year old around and working, I'm bound to feel worse. I also have quite a bump and I'm only 9 weeks, but again I'm just thinking, second pregnancy, everything stretches quicker second time around maybe?

Not got a date yet for my 12 week scan but I'll let you know. Have you got a scan booked?

Pinkywoo · 17/02/2018 13:54

People always say identical twins aren't hereditary, yet my aunt and uncle have two sets, maybe they're just the one in a million though!

Buglife · 17/02/2018 13:58

I’m pregnant with 2nd child right now, I looked pregnant really quickly and felt pregnant before I even took a test, but only one baby here! I think you know the signs better so notice them earlier, also showing earlier is common. I was in maternity jeans at 9 weeks!

ClareB83 · 17/02/2018 15:10

@Pinkywoo it's 1 in 62,500!

Pinkywoo · 18/02/2018 14:38

Wow, I always knew my family are weird! There's been 6 sets of identical twin boys on that side Confused
