Repeated negatives with Clear Blue digital tests!

I am 100% new to posting on these forums so please bare with me...

My girlfriend keeps getting negative after negative...we've tested 3 times. Once 3-4 days before her expected period, once 1-2 days after, and once 7-8 days after. We used the Clear Blue digital tests. About 3 days before her expected period she bled an unusual color (according to her) for one day and it stopped. After that she spotted for about the time period of her regular period and that stopped like yesterday. Today is that 8th day after her expected period and we got the negative this morning. I want to ask her to test with a different kind of test today or tomorrow iunno...we are really confused!

P.S. We have been reading on these types of forums a lot!

Hey OP-periods are weird. They will sometimes be late even when there is no reason for it. I had a few late 'excitements' when we were TTC. Sadly it's just the way our bodies work- often we ovulate later than we think we have or the second side of the cycle just takes longer.

I would recommend not using the digital tests anyway earlier and use FRER tests. Do you guys temp? If not I would recommend it for active TTC.

If she's sure of the day she should have got her period then even on a digital test (which are less sensitive) you would expect the have a positive by over a week late. As CL said above, periods are weird things sometimes you can completely miss one or have a very light one for no reason at all and all returns to normal next month. If it were me, I would try again in a few days with a more sensitive test then if it's also negative I'd carry on as normal and assume the unusual bleed was a weird period. If it didn't return to normal next month it might be worth having a word with a practice nurse at her GP.

Without being too gross if the weird period was thick and very dark brown it could be endometriosis, it does mess with your cycles.

Thanks CL1982...we didn't know digital tests are less sensitive. No we did not Temp though...

We will test again with a FRER Floyd. And if it's negative and she gets her period next month we will just try to do the "Do" again...thanks ya'll for your responses!

@Nfais5 ah I'm sorry. If you carry on trying for a while temping is very worth it as are ovulation strips...

Thanks for the advice!

Well I wanted to come back and give an update: at the time of the creation of this thread my girlfriend was 1 month pregnant believe it or not. She is now 2 1/2 months pregnant....She must have really low levels of that hormone...her at home tests are still REALLY light. But doctor said prego so...
