Illness in pregnancy

Hello one and all,

This may sound like a daft question but I'm going to ask as it's worrying me...

I've been poorly with a really sore throat which I think is tonsillitis for a couple of days now and I'm currently 10 weeks pregnant... I'm concerned that since being poorly all of my pregnancy symptoms seem to have stopped (no tender breasts, no sickness)... I had a scan on Wednesday and baby was all fine then but I'm worried that since then because I've been ill somethings happened... am I being overly worried? Do you usually loose pregnancy symptoms when poorly with common type illnesses? Thank you so much for an advice

I feel for you hun. For the last 2 weeks I've been incredibly poorly. I had flu and felt so rubbish that I realised I hadn't suffered with my normal symptoms. I think because my mind was on the fact I felt so bad that I just ignored the other symptoms. My sickness was still there but the aches and pains, sore boobs and such I missed because I was feeling so grim.

I'm sure if everything on your scan was OK you will be fine but get to the doctors you can still have antibiotics and if tonsalitius gets bacterial it can lead to alsorts of issues, it once spread to my ears and I started bleeding from my ears where the infection had perforated my eardrum x

I hope you feel better soon too, it's terrible when you feel so rotten and have the worry of "missing symptoms" I'm sure once your feeling better your symptoms will come back. Take care and try to stay hydrated. X

Thank you chicken, I ended up at the walk in centre this morning and have got bacterial tonsillitis so am on penicillin.... I mentioned my worries about baby and the missing pregnancy symptoms and they said they should return and baby will be tucked away completely unaware of what's going on so hopefully I'll get the symptoms, I previously hated but now miss, back! Take care hope you're feeling better soon xx

Oh my god, I swear we are the same person. I'm three days into tonsillitis, firstly can I say what the hell!!!!!! It honestly is so painful at one point I honestly felt like death was the only option... I can actually swallow now which is making it a bit more easier. I said to my partner today I was worried that I hadn't felt pregnant since being ill, but thinking about it I've been so consumed with the pain in my throat that every other feeling is none existent. I hope you feel better soon, from one razor throat to another xx

I know literally feel like I've been swallowing razor blades!! It's been awful so definitely feel for you.... I'm hoping that I'm gradually getting my tender breasts back (god what kind of a statement, never thought I'd say that! Ha ha) and the other symptoms will follow... but this tonsillitis has been crippling! Hope you've been able to get on some antibiotics too and feel better soon xx
