Hi.
Me and my wife are expecting our first child and we had our scan today. The baby is 81.4mm in length and my wife is 32 years old.

The important and worrying stat we got today however is that the baby's neck fluid (nural translucency) is 3.5mm which means they have referred us for a cardiology scan and told us we have a 70% chance for a normal pregnancy with 20% risk of downs syndrome and 10% risk of heart condition.

We were just wondering if anyone else had experience with stats like the above and what happened. We are quite worried and would just like to hear some experiences to hopefully put our minds at ease.

Thanks

My friend had the same measurement at about13+5 and was given a DS risk of 1 in 3. All was well but it was a stressful time. The fluid does get a bit thicker as the baby gets older, so you might have got a thinner reading at 11 or 12 weeks.

All you can do is have the tests and be there for each other - lots of luck.

I had a similar measurement at 14 weeks (4mm) Given high chance of downs and other conditions . We didn't have further testing for downs but did have heart scans and further regular scans. . Ds is now10. He has a congenital heart condition and a genetic disorder which does not have a huge impact on him. He is amazing.
Hopefully all will be well. Good luck
