Help?! Moses basket or cotbed?

Can anyone help? Im going to be a new mum in July and originally thought I would just buy a cotbed for the new baby - I thought moses baskets were cute, but seemed to be a waste of money! Then I just read that new babies shouldn't go into cots until 11/12 weeks - so should I buy a moses basket after all to fill that gap?
Sorry if this seems like a stupid/obvious question - Im just confused!!

Unless you can accommodate a cotbed in your room (sleeping in same room is recommended until 6 months ish to reduce risk of SIDS) then a moses basket is a good idea. We placed ours on a chest of drawers.

Doesn't anyone have cots any more (as opposed to huuuge cot beds)?

I went for a cotbed because it lasts longer and gets them used to a bed before I put him in a 'Big Boys Bed'

i bought a french crib ...a moulin roty one & a cotbed.
Ds slept in the crib in the day...great cos could wheel it around...& with me at night .
He went into his cotbed at 5mths without a problem.

we have a cot, not a cotbed, because it was passed down and hence free - the BadgerCub is an econo-baby...

borrow one..cause you might not need it for long!
Everyone thought we were mad as ds went straight to cot bed as he was big over10 lbs and he was swaddled and as long as the feet are at the bottom of cot i think its fine..
he soon grew to fit his cotbed...spend only on what you have to

My dd's would'nt settle in a moses basket, dd1 went into a cot at 3 weeks (as advised by my health visitor) Dd2 would only sleep in a travel cot.

I would say buy a moses basket but maybe not a new one/borrow one as you may not use it for long.

Haven't read whole thread, but I've never heard that they can't go into cots until 11/12 weeks.

Do whatever you like!

Moses baskets are very cute, and have the advantage of being transportable, but I know some LOs who're out of them in a matter of weeks so maybe not worth buying a new one?

We used a lovely swinging crib (a hand on!) which is considerably bigger than a Moses Basket. Ds was in it about 4 months, dd nearer 6.

Also think about whether it's worth getting a cot bed or just a cot. If you're planning a small age gap you may find your LO will have to be evicted from cot(bed) for next baby anyway.

We went straight from cot (not cot bed) to Big Boy Bed without any problem and ds (above average height) was in cot (not cot bed!) until he was almost 3.

I think the bottom line here is...Do what you want, I'm sure your baby will be happy whatever you choose.
