Elective C Section

Was at midwife today and had asked her about having an elective c section. She told me that midwives don’t promote sections and it’s not her place to say. Due to get another scan on at the 28th of December at 33 weeks with the consultant and she said to speak to him about it. My mind won’t change on wanting a section. Is there anyway he can actually refuse me getting one?

You have a reason for wanting a section so discuss with your consultant, go from there. Do your research first as they will most likely try and talk you out of it and give you reasons you should try naturally.

I had a nasty emcs with my first and elected the second time around - in my trust you have to have consent from two doctors to have an elective. They agreed mine straight away given my history.

Good luck.

Persiancatlady unfortunately it isn't possible for everyone to go private, not just cost, but outside of London they aren't done. I'm in Manchester, and can get private prenatal care, private vaginal delivery but as yet, no private c section. A journey home from London simply isn't practical or physically feasible with a newborn and c section recovery. It's why I won't ever have a second child.

That sounds awful.

Are you worried that if you did get pregnant again you wouldn't get a c section from the NHS?

Persiancatlady yes, I had a horrific first both (still have some incontinence and pain 2 years later). But my trust has a reputation for refusing c sections without clear medical need (they are in special measures so need to keep counts low) and I couldn't go through pregnancy with the not knowing if I'd get one, or if they'd force me to 'try' labour first. So it's no more babies. I've looked extensively at private sections and they just don't exist out of London.
