Where is the best place to buy a cot and cot mattress? We don't need a big cot bed or anything to fancy, just good quality and strong. Thanks xx

We got a solid oak cot from eBay and a mattress from John Lewis

PinkAvocado · 11/12/2017 20:15

We have a lovely one from Mamas and Papas (after cancelling an order from Mothercare due to them not delivering and being difficult imo to deal with) but we think we should have just got one from Ikea as it was so expensive!

helly29 · 11/12/2017 20:17

Ikea! Think ours was about £50 and it's been great!

IndianaMoleWoman · 11/12/2017 20:25

Anywhere but Mothercare! They didn’t deliver, insisted they did, left at our neighbours. Neighbours adamant no delivery. Delivery driver adament he did. Mothercare suggested I basically go round and accuse my neighbours of lying and stealing. I refused.

A week later, it turned out they had delivered to a different numbered house on a different street. Thankfully, the honest people who had taken in the (massive!) parcel had just left it in their hallway and finally checked the actual address on the label then brought it round.

Another vote for Ikea, the one where the side can be removed and there are 2 levels for the mattress.

BertieBotts · 11/12/2017 20:50

Ikea cots are brilliant and not as overpriced as some of the others. They have lots of different styles too so you should find something you like.

BertieBotts · 11/12/2017 20:53

...Although currently everything in their range is white. Xmas Confused

Howsthings1234 · 11/12/2017 20:58

We got ours from Mokee - it was only £70 and last till age three as you can turn it into a cot bed. They do loads of really lovely colours like they and mint green.

It's a mini cot 60 by 120 I think it is - so doesn't take up to much space either.

I'm really pleased with it and also got a change mat with it that goes on top. They do drawers you can buy to put underneath which is pretty cool too.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone! That rules out Mothercare for us. IKEA seem like a good budget friendly option. Is it the Gulliver cot everyone recommends??

We're going ikea. We had the cheapest one with DD1 (Think £39, it was brilliant), we plan to get the gulliver this time round as I think it's a cot bed?

Hatstand · 11/12/2017 21:25

Yep, the Gulliver is great.

Hatstand · 11/12/2017 21:25

Someaddedsugar · 11/12/2017 21:31

Another vote for the Gulliver!

BertieBotts · 11/12/2017 22:36

Panda, it's no bigger than a standard cot, if that's what you were thinking. It just has an open setting but will still only last until about 2 years old.

I honestly can't remember which one I had now, I think it had solid ends but it was bright red, they don't seem to do it any more.

Kpo58 · 11/12/2017 23:08

I bought a cot bed from Tesco.

The reason I went with a cot bed over a cot is that it is only 10cm larger and can have the sides removed, so that you don't need to buy a toddler bed before moving them to a single.

Lauraandbump2 · 11/12/2017 23:30

Ikea. It can be lowered for when they start crawling and climbing and also the side comes off and turns into a cotbed. Using it for for 2nd baby due May - still looks brand new. Brilliant value.

PandaCat · 12/12/2017 11:04

I didn't know cot beds were bigger than a standard cot anyway Bertie!

MagicFajita · 12/12/2017 11:06

Ikea here too. Our cot was £40 and the mattress £25. Lovely quality and simple design. Grab some fitted sheets from there too if you buy a cot , great value and quality also.

MagicFajita · 12/12/2017 11:08

We have the sniglar by the way.

FutureFairyCrayon · 12/12/2017 11:09

I bought an immaculate John Lewis one on eBay for a fraction of the price. I think they still sell it, it's the Anna model. It was great for me as I'm very short, three height positions for the mattress, and you can get the side down one handed as there is a foot pedal.

sammy891 · 12/12/2017 11:09

Thanks so much everyone. I'm definitely going to get the IKEA one! We'll save a lot of money and can use that to buy some chest of drawers to keep baby's clothes. Such a price difference compared to other big retailers.
