Isofix when u have more than one car what do u do.

It's just crosswmy mind that we haven't yet got one.. And thought we'd got everything lol. Prob because with my DS yrs ago they wernt a big thing and didn't know much about them and dint have one

So just txt dp and said oh shite we forgot that ( he reckons he told me hahaha)

Anyway what happens then with having diff cars.
We have two. The baby will be with me Mon to Fri in my car. But at weekends we tend to go in dps as much cheaper to run, more space etc.
But when I go back to work my dad will be having baby, using his car.

Do people buy separate ones or keep swapping.? I'm all for the easy life but buying multiple seems nuts

Can you not switch cars during the week so the one you use at the weekends is what you use with the kids in the week and your husband takes the other?

We bought one then a week ago bought another for the other car as it was frustrating me swapping and DH forgot once taking it to work with him!

Well many/most infant carriers get lifted out of the car a lot anyway and can be fitted with seatbelts just as safely as with Isofix, so either buy multiple bases or just strap the carrier in in whatever car the baby is in.

If your DPs car is bigger then you should have that with your baby during the week and weekends once he/she is born. Assuming here your DP commutes on his own?

Once you go back to work you swap if you can be bothered. We swap car seats when my parents come down and look often them but it’s rare - I find it a faff. Or my dad just drives my car. Some people I know have spare car seats in relatives cars, but it gets expensive.

With my first we had one and kept swapping. It was annoying!

With my second we bought two bases and to be honest we bought two prams in the end (both second hand) cuz I got sick of swapping those too.

Think it depends on how much agro you want and how much cash you have to splash to make your life easier.

We bought one and swap it as we’re quite similar to you in car use. When she’s in the next size up seat we’ll each get a car seat as they last a few years but for the sake of 12-18months it seemed a waste of money to buy two and I didn’t want a cheap second one as I wanted the safest one.

DD is 7 months and the swapping hasn’t bothered us, admittedly he’s normally the one physically moving it though

We bought one thinking it would be easy to swap over - once we'd installed it, we swiftly bought a second one 😂

We had an isofix base for each car and one infant seat (maxi cosi pebble plus) that we moved between cars. In hindsight the second base/any base was totally unnecessary as infant carriers are so easy to belt in. We then got the next size seat (maxi cosi 2 way pearl) which uses the same base as the infant seat. We then bought a joie every stage as our second seat as can be fitted with a seatbelt and is easy to move into taxis, hire cars etc.

My advice would be to buy a basic infant carrier, use it with the seatbelt in whichever car you need it in, then you’ll have a least 12-18 months to figure out the next seat you want!

We've got the isofix base in my car as dd2 is in my car more, if she's in any other car she is strapped in with the seatbelt. We have the Cybex Atom.

Sorry should of said. Can't swap cars in week as his is used for his self employment as well as employment so is covered by his business insurance. Where as he wouldn't be covered for business use in th e week. We Did look at insuring both cars for business use so would cover all aspects but mine went up by 1k a year.

Yeah he said about strapping it in the car with just seat belt. At weekends in his car if needed as it will be sturdy and safe enough x
May go for one to start with.. And see where we end up lol

Two lots of car seats. It was just too difficult to swap them as we park on tge street and the cars could be miles away.

Seatbelt is just as safe as isofix and honestly very easy.

I wasn't worried about the ease or strapping in as my nephews seat has always just been put in car with just a belt..

Altho he has just messaged and said his car doesn't have the connections anyway.. Doh

It's fine just strapping it in as an alternative to base.
Shifting it regularly between cars would be a right pain.

You just move them between cars, unless you're drowning in money and want to buy two for convenience sake (which I think is silly, just move it). You can buy an isofix kit to install isofix points in an older model car that doesn't already have them (we did this when we had our dd 5 years ago as I had a 2003 model car which didn't have isofix). It costs like 20 quid from Halford's and took my dh about 15 minutes to do.

But if you are just moving it to another car at the weekends, it's super easy and quick. The only time we've found we needed separate ones was when we were both working and one of us was doing the drop off and the other the pick up. Then we had two seats as one of us would take the seat to work and couldn't drop it off to the other. If you are just moving it a couple times a week, it's so simple to do and takes no time.

That said, many seats do go in with both seat belt and isofix, so you might consider getting one of those just for the ease of it, but it's truly no faster to do it that way and I would just get an isofix kit and install it in both cars.

Thanks didn't know that u could buy the kit. Will go look on weds on my day off at Halfords and dp can put it in. That's fab to know. X

We just move the base, tbh I found it to be easier than belting the car seat anyway. Seems like a waste of money to have multiple bases.

Your other option, if you definitely want a seat in each car, is to go with a seat that’s suitable from birth up to 18/25/36kg. That way you save money by not buying infant seats at all.

We have seats for both cars. I found the safest seats weren't necessarily the most expensive. Join up to Which, they do crash testing of seats. I bought 2 of the cheaper best buy seats over 1 pricey seat. So glad i did, there's enough faffing about to get out, reduce any potential faff where you see it :-)

Apart from the first seat, which we just used to strap in with a car seat in dh car, we have always had two seats. Mainly because dh has always done nursery drop off and I pick up.

We have the same situation as you re car usage and just swap the base over each weekend. If you have an isofix base it literally takes 30 seconds, press the release buttons, remove from one car and lock straight into the other car. We have a Joie base and seat if that makes any difference.

All of those carry baby seats have the option of seatbelt installation without base.

If you want a base many seats have the option of an isofix base or belt fitted base.

Never used a base personally, DH wants one for the future, I think they are ridiculously overpriced! But we'll see.

We have two car seats, one for each car. It's so much easier. The first one was new. The second is second hand and came from someone we know... you do have to be careful buying seconds and ensure straps etc are all perfect and make sure seat hasn't been in an accident. Also that it fits the car properly.

It's so much easier having two. 👌🏽

Both of the seats are isofix and are expensive as you know but there are some really good seconds websites plus the sales are and will be coming soon😀
