Just wondering when you guys told everyone about your pregnancy? I have just got date for my 12 week scan and we thought that we would tell everyone adter that but then i read it takes 5 days for result of combined downs syndrome test. Our scan is just less than a week before xmas and we hoped to tell all our family when we see them ovee hols but we wont get downs result until after that so not sure what to do!!

We told everyone straight after the scan, so you get a blood test that’s sent off and will give a score (mine was like 1 in 35000 or something like that )

sthitch · 22/11/2017 12:47

....and they also measure the fluid in the scan and will give you a really good indication there and then if there is a problem, you will generally know if things are ok whilst at the scan and the blood test just backs it up.

Well, would you terminate for Downs or other chromosomal abnormalities?

Expectingbsbunumber2 · 22/11/2017 12:54

We told people after the 12 week scan

Its personal choice and depends what your reasons are for having the tests.

We told close family and friends about our pregnancy at week 6, as we'd previously had a loss which we ended up telling them about anyway, so to us it didn't make any sense to hide it again.

As for our other friends and family, we waited until the 12 week scan. We knew that we were very unlikely to terminate based on the abnormality tests, so the outcome didn't really matter.

I think it depends on whether you'd terminate or not depending on the results (and whether you'd want you close friends and family to know that you've been through that).

We are telling after 12 weeks, but are having Harmony test at 10 weeks, is that an option?

We only told people after we got the results of the NHS combined screening test. It did take about a week from the scan date to get the results letter, but the hospital did say that I'd get a phonecall much sooner than that if any of the results came back as high risk. You could ask them if that's how it works in your area? Then you could share the good news if you haven't had a phonecall by Xmas. Or the hospital might let you phone up for the results as its so close to Christmas.

We told both sets of parents and out closest friends about a month after we found out (we found out the day before I went home for Xmas, I was a student away from home, so we didn't have time to even enjoy the news together before I had to go home. (Baby was planned). So in the new year we told them.
Everyone else was after the 1st scan, which I had later than usual, as I didn't tell anyone til late, because of Xmas and new year)

Thanks everyone sorry for late reply! I think we will tell close family after the scan and then wait a little while before telling everyone else! I can't wait to tell people its so hard keeping it a secret!
