Peau d’orange skin on both breasts. Cancer? :(

Has anyone else had Peau d’orange (Orange peel) skin on their breasts during pregnancy? Over the last couple of weeks I’ve developed this on both breasts around the areola, extending 2-3” outwards. My breasts just feel super heavy and big. They weren’t small to start with! I made the mistake of googling and the first thing that came up is inflammatory breast cancer. I have an appointment first thing Monday as my dr feels this is as “emergent” situation where time is of the essence to investigate the cause. I’m 23 weeks pregnant and now freaking out! It’s hard not to. IBC has an appalling survival rate and although it might not be that, the fact it could be is hugely distressing.

Hi. I am so glad I found this thread. I have this exact issue on both of my boobs, on the inside towards the bottom of each boob. I was horrified after googling today. I guess I should go the doctors despite all of our outcomes being positive but this has made me feel a bit better. My boobs are usually quite small, around a B but have grown so much I was shocked at how much they have grown - so maybe that’s the cause?! If anyone has any updates on this would be much appreciated to find out how you all got on! Thanks so much

I feel to relieved reading through all these. I just noticed thesame on my both breast, the bottom and inner part. My breasts have really grown over the months of my pregnancy, I’m 22 weeks now. I was so worried when I googled what the orange peel look means, until I saw these posts. Thank you everyone for sharing.

Oh my gosh - reading these threads gives me hope. I’m 20 weeks pregnant w twins, and since week 9 I’ve had redness on my breasts (both). Midwife told me to go to GP and GP told me
I had excema. I wasn’t satisfied with this, and knew the cream she gave me wouldn’t work, so I went back and demanded a referral to the specialise breast unit. The hospital consultants had no clue! The fact I had redness and slight peau d’orange on both breasts was something they hadn’t seen before. They took a punch biopsy of the breast most affected. I have now got a letter for an appointment next Monday at the oncoplastic breast and surgical
dermatology unit. I’ve spent the last day so upset and freaked out - convinced they are going to give me bad news come Monday. I haven’t been able to find anyone saying they’ve had this as a symptom of pregnancy (rapid growth, warm breasts, redness, orange peel - it all comes under the symtoms of IBC).

Did you get a diagnosis?

LHerzog123 · 28/10/2022 02:02

Hi! I had exactly this when I was pregnant with my first son in 2020 like you, I couldn’t find anyone who had any of the symptoms I only found anything on this thread. All of the doctors sent me to all of the other doctors. I went to a breast doctor, they did punch hole biopsies in both breasts and it was nothing. I’m sure you’re fine like the rest of us, of course you can get 2nd opinion or 3rd and 4th. I still never got an explanation, I really believe it’s a rare hormonal thing. If you want to talk more about it I’d be happy to! I got the notification that someone posted on this thread and I had to immediately answer bc it’s an old thread and I was very concerned when it happened to me as well.

Thank you for replying. I’ve had red breasts (lower below nipple) pretty even on both. My GP said excema but I wasn’t happy w that. I’ve had it since about 9 weeks. My breasts grew rapidly - from a 34dd to a 36f during those early weeks. One nipple is a bit firmer/weirder looking so that’s where they took the punch biopsy. I just am
so hoping it goes ok on Monday. I’m scared because the location they’ve sent me on the letter says oncoplastic breast surgery.

LHerzog123 · 29/10/2022 14:26

That is the exact same thing I experienced and that is also where they sent me. I really wouldn’t worry, I know that’s hard, but I had the redness in the same spot, rapid growth etc.
