CVS test

Hi, I'm not sure the content of this post is light hearted enough for the newbies corner, however I wanted to post something about the CVS test as noticed the only threads about it were quite old and may not attract responses.

I had a CVS test this morning after being given a 1 in 5 chance of downs following the nuchal test at the 12 week scan - I wanted to share the fact it really didn't hurt and wasn't even as uncomfortable as i feared but the waiting is obviously agony, has anyone else had a similar experience with the sort of odds I had and had a favourable result? Thanks, Amelia.

Thinking of those of you who are due results today x

Amelialouisa · 27/10/2017 14:48

Thanks Marmite - I still haven't had a call despite the specialist saying it would almost certainly be today - in absolute agony x

Shocked and amazed to report all clear for downs, Edwards and Patau!! I literally sobbed with relief- first on the phone to the woman who rang then on the shoulder of my 17 year old daughter who was waiting anxiously with me. They still need to look into structural issues, namely with the heart, but the most likely chromosomal problems have been ruled out. Thanks so much to all of you who were here for me xx

Best of luck Amelialouisa. I hope you get the all clear tomorrow.

As you say, DS covers a wide spectrum (as does the rest of life). You can’t assume the best or the worst. My dd has no heart, bowel or feeding issues at all, she just tends to get a bit snotty at this time of year due to her little tubes! She is 26 months and a clever little thing. She’s not walking yet (won’t be long though!) but has over 65 Makaton signs, can say her name, up and down, and does a mean line in animal noises!

Take care xxx

Thank you so much orangebird69 and thisismadness77 - if I've learnt one thing from this experience it's that my username is very uninventive Lol! And that I would never take the nuchal test for granted ever again though I think it's safe to say this will be my last child with 3 under my belt already and the oldest old enough to be a mother herself!

Curliegirlie I really appreciated your positive advice regarding DS and it sounds like you have really embraced the unexpected - your DD sounds a delight. You're absolutely right about DS covering a wide spectrum as with the rest of life and there is of course no guarantee that a child born perfectly healthy and with no issues won't have health problems later in life- I wish you both the happiest of lives xxx

Ah, fantastic- I’d somehow missed that last post (the entire last page in fact)! So glad for you. I hope all goes well for the rest of the pregnancy and investigations xxx

MarmiteandToast · 27/10/2017 20:32

So happy for you Amelialouisa! 😀 I was keeping an eye out for your post and had my fingers crossed!

Enjoy weekend celebrating!

wafflelady · 27/10/2017 23:58

Don't worry! Smile

MissRainbowBrite · 28/10/2017 16:05

That’s fantastic news, really happy for you. Hoping all the other results come back clear. You will probably still get an extra heart scan at 16 weeks even if all results are clear as they can scan in more detail as the heart grows.

Amelialouisa · 28/10/2017 16:49

Thanks Curliegirlie, Marmiteandtoast and MissRainbowBrite, I'm still in shock tbh, had the worst 7 days of my life. I was told I will need to come in at 16w yes MBR; which is only 2 weeks away but feels like forever. I do have a slight sense of it being too good to be true after having such scarily high odds and that the nf reading will indicate something to do with the heart but trying hard not to worry too much as God knows the baby doesn't need any more stress! I do hope others who come across this and are in my situation can take some comfort from it. Thanks again ladies xxx
