8 weeks pregnant, not had any caffeine and suffering from bad morning sickness. Feel like I want coke but surely that’s really bad?!

My nan always swore by flat coke to settle an upset tummy. It won't kill you but isn't something you should be having on a regular basis due to the caffeine and sugar.

LadyPug · 14/10/2017 18:45

It feels so wrong to want it janeeyre but I’m literally feeling sick morning noon and night! Thank you for replying!

You can have Coke. Recommendations are 200mg of caffeine which is the equivalent of 5 cans of Coke or 2 mugs of instant coffee.

LadyPug · 14/10/2017 18:46

Oh my goodness! That’s loads, I was just thinking a couple of sips!!!

That's per day.

TheLegendOfBeans · 14/10/2017 18:46

Not the Class A but a can here and there of the brown fizzy stuff is fine.

I read once that Diet Coke is a greater nono than ff Coke anyway so stay away from that

SupermanStoleMyPants · 14/10/2017 18:46

With horrid sickness, lack of sleep and a demanding job, sometimes cola was the only thing that got me through the day when pregnant. It's not great but it's not battery acid. Everything in moderation.

Anatidae · 14/10/2017 18:48

The stuff in a can? ;)

Yes of course. I bloody hate the stuff but it was a lifesaver when I had HG for getting some sugar and fluids in.

Let it go flat a bit and sip it, it’s like life returning :) try not to let it coat your teeth though (a straw helps.)

Sorry you’re suffering,

wowbutter · 14/10/2017 18:49

Crack on with it.
A can of coke isn't going to hurt he baby.

Anatidae · 14/10/2017 18:49

Recent research suggests the previous caffeine levels were a bit stingy too.

Don’t drink buckets of it but frankly a couple of cuppas / bit of choc / cola is fine. Much preferable to dehydration anyhow

stitchglitched · 14/10/2017 18:51

When I had HG in my last pregnancy I lived on full fat coke and smoky bacon crisps. Needs must!

LadyPug · 14/10/2017 18:56

Thank you so much everyone! I hate it normally but for some reason really want some! And yes, the type in a can! Hahaha! Thanks ladies!

My pregnancy cravings of coke and Dr Pepper got me through some dark days of sickness! I limited myself to one can per day, it was practically the only thing I actually enjoyed tasting for 3 months!

HeartStrings · 14/10/2017 19:01

You’re allowed caffeine in moderation, so just not loads.
I’m pregnant with my 3rd DC and all I’ve done with this pregnancy and my previous pregnancy was crave fizzy drinks and my DD turned out fine.
Enjoy Smile

dementedpixie · 14/10/2017 19:02

You can get caffiene free stuff too

lookingforthecorkscrew · 14/10/2017 19:41

If it weren’t for cola I’m not sure I’d have survived nine months of HG.

londonfeather · 14/10/2017 19:46

In my final trimester I had a can of full fat coke a day. It was the only thing getting me through and I would look forward to it and count down to it all day long!

Enjoy your coke!!

Tatiana1986 · 14/10/2017 20:29

Originally Coca Cola was only sold in pharmacies as a indigestion remedy.

Go for it.

thingymaboob · 14/10/2017 21:21

I lived on coke for 10 weeks with hyperemesis. Couldn't drink anything else which is weird because I normally don't drink it at all!

Hairgician · 14/10/2017 22:11

Fill a glass with ice then pour coke on. Add a bit of water if still fizzy. And use a straw. It literally saved me last week when I couldn't bear even water! And I never usually drink fizzy drinks. You need the sugar for energy. It's only a temporary pick me up til you are over the sickness.

PinkHeart5914 · 14/10/2017 22:12

Full fat Cola was the only thing that helped with my morning sickness, in my previous & current pregnancies.

Go for it

butterfly198615 · 14/10/2017 22:23

My pregnancy craving was coke , was the only thing that helped with my morning sickness. I then switched to flavoured fizzy water which also helped. I alternates between these drinks .

orangeowls · 14/10/2017 22:24

I don’t like full fat coke but loved it during pregnancy ( I did limit to one glass a day)

Oly5 · 14/10/2017 22:26

I have two coffees and a can of Diet Coke every day! It's my third pregnancy so I've relaxed a bit. Baby is happy, weight on the track etc. All good
