Losing my mind - severe back pain

Hey everyone,

I've posted a couple of times about my (assumed) PGP and how its pretty unrelentless. Well things have stepped up a notch and I'm literally at my wits end and don't know what to do to.

My lower back / coccyx area is so painful, its basically right between my butt cheeks and to the left. The only time it doesn't hurt is when I am laying down in bed. Its a dull ache most of the time but then every so often it feels like the muscles go into spasm and send shooting pains into my thigh and up my spine. It feels extremely unstable to walk - I have to keep stopping and gasping and I keep bursting into tears through the pain.

Yesterday I thought I'd try some yoga stretches but as soon as I got down on the floor my back went into spasm and I was in unbearable pain and too scared to move, I was stuck in all fours position just crying my eyes out and calling to DH who had to practically lift me back up onto my feet.

I can't sit or walk very much, I can only lay down. I've called the doctors who are getting back to me with an appointment today but realistically what can they do? I know pain relief options will be limited.

I'm not at work today so I've pissed them right off and I just feel so stressed and emotional and in pain. :(

Forgot to add - I'm 26 weeks pregnant.

You need too see a physio, get crutches to take the pressure off your pelvis when walking and they will show you excercises to strengthen the muscles in the area Flowers

Help is here, OP.

Have you been to a physio/osteopath?

owltrousers · 02/10/2017 10:02

No not yet, I've no idea which would be best and not sure we can afford it either.

My midwife referred me to a physio class but it's not til November 😒

I've seen my GP this morning and got some co-codamol tablets and been referred directly to physio in the nearest hospital. progress maybe!

Definitely look into a private physio or osteopath appointment, better to try and ease/fix it than just mask with painkillers longterm. I went to osteopath at 20 weeks and managed to head sciatic/pelvic pain off at the pass with just two appointments.

Thanks @Foggy - I have booked to see a physio this week.

Oddly enough I work for an osteopath so might see if I can get a freebie.

In other news, I'm as high as a kite.

Get your physio to check you for a locked pelvis!!! I had this a few weeks ago, was sent to a PGP physio class and the physio took one look at me and knew that my pelvis was locked on the left side. Like you I was in a lot of pain, struggling to put weight on my left side due to the shooting pains and was basically dragging my left leg about by the ligaments. She was able to unlock it in a matter of minutes but it has taken some time for all of the muscles and ligaments to heal. My left side is feeling much better but I have the physio again on Wednesday as it's now happened on my left side!

Cantseemytoesanymore · 02/10/2017 18:08

Sorry, I mean it's now happened on my right side!!

Aw I feel your pain.... almost literally! This is my 5th pregnancy 4th with pgp gets earlier each time I had twins 6 years ago was awful then ended up off work at 25 weeks and on crutches by wk 30. Last pregnancy not twins but onset at about 16 weeks this time back and tail bone pain from 11 weeks definately pgp from 14 wks😣 also feel I'm peeing work off I'm 19 weeks today and made my back so much worse over the weekend in work (I work on a busy heavy hospital ward) to point my gp signed me off for a fortnight to see if my back begins to get better she said wait and see probably muscular but with an unsteady pelvis there's no support for my injured back. Have you looked into pilates.... look for an appi registered practitioner in your area who has an ante natal class appi pilates is tought by a chartered physiotherapist I found it helped me immensely last time and this time to be honest until the incident in work I was coping ok tbh it's getting comfy at night and trying to sleep that's been the piggery issue. Hoping this means my back injury will resolve
Sorry for long rant fed up I had lovely plans with my littlest one that I just can't do this week now because of the pain 😢
