24 weeks pregnant with 2nd baby. Been lying here the past 4 hours with continuous abdominal pain. It's not rhythmic - it's continuous pressure and cramp. Right across the middle of my belly and down. No bleeding, watery discharge, etc. But very painful and tight, almost making me tearful. It doesn't feel like braxton hicks. It's getting worse with rest and water rather than better.

Any ideas? I want to avoid going into hospital as I've got my kid here and no one to come watch him. I'll drag him out of bed if I have to, but it would be a last resort.

Call your midwives, they'll best advise.

I'm so sorry you're on your own. You need to call the maternity number at your hospital. They'll tell you if you need to go in. I suspect you do.

It's hopefully Just one of those things but better safe than sorry. Xx

I'm sorry but I think you really need to go to hospital especially as your pain is getting worse. I completely understand that you don't want to wake your child up but I do think you need to seek help.

Hi OP hope you're feeling better this morning. Here to offer a hand hold if needed

Hi everyone. Thanks so much for your replies last night to my little panic. Here's a quick update:

The pain and pressure stopped abruptly about 45 minutes after I made this post, while I was pottering around getting a small bag together etc. I drank another glass of water and laid down on my left side to see what would happen. Baby was happily beating me up and I got the doppler out for the first time in weeks for a little extra reassurance. Everything seemed normal again - but of course, I'm not a doctor.

I decided ultimately that as all pain had gone and baby was wriggling around happily that I'd relax for the night. I'm going to get hold of my GP today to get checked out.

I think maybe it was a weird case of braxton. Or the baby had got himself into a horrible position that put pressure in all the wrong places. Idk but I'm glad it's stopped!

Thanks again x
