Should I be doing anything about this pain?

Hello! I'm 22 weeks on Friday.

I have a pain in my back really low down on the left side, basically in my bum cheek. It hurts most when I bend down or lean against something (i.e kitchen cabinet) should I be doing anything about it or is it just normal?

I have an posterior placenta if that effects anything at all.

Is anyone experiencing similar?

I had this on my right side. Was excruciating for ages.

It started before I knew I was pregnant and I had massage and acupuncture but I'm not sure that is recommended in pregnancy.

If it's bad I'd speak to your midwife and try and get a physio referral. In fact as your only 22weeks I'd do that now anyway. As you get bigger it might make a potential problem worse.

Thank you @Unexpectedbaby thats what worries me, it may get worse as I get bigger.

I have an appointment with the MW at 25 weeks, do you think its ok to wait til then or should I call them?

It's sciatica or pelvic pain, nothing to do with baby/doesnt affect baby. Physio, massage, osteopath, band support and learning what exacerbates it will all help.

It could be your piriformis muscle, a little muscle deep in your bum cheek! I struggle with mine and it sends pain up into my back.

These stretches are really helpful: www.healthline.com/health/pregnancy/sciatica-pain-stretches#treatments4
