Period-like pain - is this normal?

Went to GP this morning after uncomfortable night with lower abdominal pain - much like period pain. No bleeding, but she says is almost certainly early mc. Am only 5 weeks - first pg. Feeling pretty low and wondered if anyone has any thoughts?

Will do, Scorpio - hopefully will have a similar outcome to you, but even if not, should get a more sympathetic ear - and more advice than I did from GP. Either way, its got to be a positive thing. Will let you know how I go.

Take care.

Hi Mini
Going to the epu will help to put your mind at rest. I went at 6 weeks and it really helps. Just so you know I have had lower abdominal pain the whole way through my pregancy so far- from 3 weeks until now 24+4. My MW said its fine as there is no bleeding or anything. I also get extra bad (in terms of aches and pains) and also moodiness exactly when each of my periods would be due! I think that was really bad of your GP to say that to you. Please try not to worry too much (I know easier said then day) as you can see from this site that a lot of time pain does not mean bad.
Hope all goes well tomorrow XX

Thanks, princess. Overwhelmed by support from MN - so hard in first few weeks when you haven't told anyone yet - my parents live abroad so don't want to worry them, but seems a lonely time - apart from MN that is!

Hi Mini, I starting reading your thread yesterday. I feel quite cross at your GP, what an insensitive thing to say! I'm quite shocked that they diagnosed a miscarriage based on your symptoms, for goodness sake did they have their xray glasses on or something!!! But seriously, I'm on baby No.3 now, and I remember vividly with each pregnancy thinking AF is going to start AF is going to start.... it felt SO much like period pains it's untrue. I found that these pains got worse with each pregnancy. The telling thing is, I had a miscarriage once and that was the only pregnancy where I didn't get these period like pains! I'm so pleased that you're getting a scan tomorrow. It truly is an incredibly stressful time, without the aid of a stupid GP! Let us know how you get on. x x

Hi Mini, my parents are abroad too and as it's all still too early to tell friends it's great to have MN. Good luck at the EPU tomorrow. I had an early dating scan at 6 weeks and always found them really helpful.

EdieMcredie · 03/04/2007 17:17

Right this second im getting period pains and baby is somersaulting inside me

Minicooper · 03/04/2007 17:23

Sounds hopeful, then, EdieMcredie. How far on are you? I'm still at early stage of not having those reassuring symptoms! Hopefully will get there, though!

Mini, I had strong period pains and light bleeding for a week at five weeks - just as we had a blood test that confirmed I was pregnant! I kept having piercing pains in my abdomen (nothing that felt like "stretching") for a few weeks. Each time I expected the worst outcome and I got the best instead.

It is hard not to panic but stay positive until you see the ultrasound screen yourself. Even if you do have some bleeding it could just be hormonal.
GPs have a habit of seeing "symptoms" and "possible" miscarriage....try to keep it in perspective.

Good luck for your EPU appointment.

Just had transa (inconclusive) and transv scans at epu and have now seen sac, yolk, tiny (2.2mm!) embryo and slight pulsating heartbeat! All is apparently as normal for a 5+5 week very early pregnancy! Thank you all so much for your support and advice - wouldn't have known to try a epu without MN. Obviously no guarantee for future, but feels like we've got over the first hurdle! Thanks again.

Minicooper · 04/04/2007 11:58

Thanks, girls. Ediemcredie - can't believe you're still getting AF pains at 17 weeks - does that mean I've got more to look forward to?! Don't mind too much if all is ok!

EdieMcredie · 04/04/2007 12:35

From what I have read some people do get them for a while. You will get used to them and TBH they are not that bad just more noticable when pg because your first reaction is to worry because of the association with bleeding when having a period.

scorpio1 · 04/04/2007 12:40

yay mini, well done!really pleased for you

Minicooper · 04/04/2007 12:44
