Heart Burn/ Indigestion causing vomiting at night?

35 + 4 at the moment, and over the last two weeks I've been waking up in the middle of the night coughing and having to run to the bathroom to be sick.

I be tried the usual Gaviscon to try and help things about, but it just doesn't seem to be working anymore.

I've tried not eating too late- around 6:30 after I get in from work, but even then I'm waking up at 2am and seeing my entire dinner for the second time (something to do with digestion slowing down in the third trimester?).

I'm getting really fed up and I just feel gross all the time. I spoke to the doctor today who said they wouldn't be concerned as I wasn't losing weight, but I'm just SO TIRED. Feeling very sorry for myself as I woke up an hour and go and have since been sick twice.

Bit stuck as to what to do?

Milk works for me, gaviscon makes it worse

Can you jack up the head end of the bed with books under the mattress? It makes the acid have to work against gravity so less reflux.

Downbutnotyetout · 31/08/2017 05:04

I had this, you have my sympathy as it's a horrible feeling without the whole tiredness - get some tablets from GP / midwife (sorry can't remember what they are called but you can get them in Asda for a couple of pounds) which are more preventative than Gaviscon. They did the trick for me.

Also see if there is anything that triggers it more. For me was anything sweet or desert after dinner, no matter what time was eaten.

I have it again in this pregnancy already and am only 15 weeks Hmm

I'm 28 weeks and have awful heartburn, the doctor prescribed me tablets, one every morning before food, they are the best thing ever, well worth a try

The tablets other posters are referring to are ranitidine. It's probably your best bet. If you don't want to bother with a GP appointment it's very cheap over the counter. You have my sympathies, I had this only on occasion and it was awful! Can't imagine nightly.

Jasmine1111 · 31/08/2017 06:41

If ranitidine doesn't work you can be prescribed omeprazole - it was a miracle drug for me!

TheLionQueen1 · 31/08/2017 06:47

Gaviscon doesn't work for me at all (34+2 at the moment!) only renee tablets!

SilverAndCold · 31/08/2017 06:50

Don't let yourself suffer unnecessarily, late pregnancy is hard enough as it is! Go back to the doctors and ask for omeprazole- it got rid of my awful pregnancy heartburn within 24hours of starting it.

Merida83 · 31/08/2017 07:17

Get omeprazole from your gp. Have it twice a day, first thing in morning and again at bedtime. It has improved things for me by about 90%. Also lying on your left refuced reflux in bed due to how the stomach lies.
You could also take at bedtime an anti sickness tablet too. I take both together morning and night, it's only way I've been able to function. But difference is phenomenal!

Thank you everyone!

Im going to pop over to Boots shortly to see about that Ranitidine- hopefully that see me through the next five weeks of this 😂😂😂
