My cervix feels open, could it be dilated?

I'm 24 weeks pregnant.

I know you're suppose to leave it all alone up there and I did completely until last night, just out of interest I had a little feel Blush

It feels a good 1cm or so dilated.

I have no full term previous DC so my cervix always being that little bit open isn't the cause as it can be when you've had DC before.

I was in hospital at around 20 weeks with contractions that were luckily stopped (servers UTI got treated via drip), so this does worry me.

Should I report this to my midwife or anything?

Do you have a prematurity clinic? I'd definitely call that unit or midwife or birth centre, especially as you had early contractions. If it is opening they might consider a cerclage, bed rest or steroids (to help accelerate lung development). Trust your instincts, leave off us randoms on the internet (we are mostly nice but are not trained doctors or midwives) and good luck.

blueobsessive I will mention it to midwife tomorrow. I'm not feeling any contractions but I did have slight spotting last night, which is supposedly normal

You mentioned you've had no previous full term births - does that mean you've had a previous miscarriage / abortion? I had this same worry but the consultant I saw explained that because I had a ERPC that's why it felt open at the bottom - it has the same effect on our cervix as full term birth (as can a miscarriage, depending on the stage). Worth getting it checked out for peace of mind anyway but I can reassure you that mine felt completely open but was firmly closed where it mattered!

Hi peach,

I've lost twins at 16 weeks and the other 4 losses were early miscarriages so yes, have had previous pregnancies.

Hope you're all okay now!

So sorry for your losses, how awful. :( That would explain why your cervix feels open though, definitely.

Thank you - am 14+4 with this one and fingers very firmly crossed!

So sorry for your losses. Hope midwife was helpful today.
