I think I saw a willy!

During our 20 week scan right at the end when the baby was in profile view I could have sworn I saw a willy. Has anyone else spotted one from the side (ie. Not in the usual potty shot position.) I thought it flashed on and off the screen as the sonographer was trying to get a good photo shot at the end. Baby's legs were up at the time. In standard foetal position. Bit gutted as was really wanting a surprise and now I feel certain of what we're having. Not gutted it's a boy - totally fine wither way but really wanted to find out at the birth and feel annoyed that that's gone in a nanosecond after a long anomaly scan. (Also it goes without saying that the main issue here is the fact that baby appears all well!!)

Is it easy to spot boy bits from the side and has this happened to anyone else?

Why don't you just ask the sonographer?

MrsGB2225 · 13/07/2017 08:08

When a friend was having her 20w scan the sonographer referred to the baby as 'she' a couple of times so they took that as a sign she was having a girl...she had a boy!
I could tell my son was a boy because they zoomed in (I already told them I knew we were having a boy). I'm not sure i would have noticed if they hadn't zoomed in.

I would take it with a pinch of salt - even a qualified sonographer will tell you they rarely guarantee 100% if it's a boy or a girl.

Could have been the umbilical cord

Slippersandacuppa · 13/07/2017 08:21

I saw a willy - she's 5 now. I was absolutely convinced. Saw it more than once but no, it was the cord as Lapin says!

Congratulations

Haha @Slippersandacuppa that made me laugh 😂 Was that from a side angle though?

@2014newme I didn't ask the sonographer because I want a surprise as does my husband so that would have potentially given it away. Also it was so brief that I didn't think much of it at the time but have since decided I'm definitely having a boy after thinking about it

It was very likely the cord. I have two boys found out with both and wouldn't have spotted their bits myself without a sonographer checking

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 13/07/2017 10:46

You've just reminded me, during DS2's scan, the sonographer announced that it was a boy. I asked how sure she was, she said, "There's a definite scrotum!" 😂 Maybe that's what you should be looking for?

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 13/07/2017 10:48

Or not, if you want a surprise!

DramaAlpaca · 13/07/2017 11:00

Yes, with my DS3 at 20 weeks.

It was a profile view and we could see the cord and something else below it.

The sonographer pointed it out straight away as she knew we wanted to know, but it was clear as day to DH & I without being told that boy number 3 was on his way Smile

Pastaagain78 · 13/07/2017 11:10

I doubt very much that was a actual penis. I have 3DS and the under the legs shot was the only way to identify their bits. It was most likely part of the umbilical cord. During scans all sorts of bits come into and out of focus. You still have your surprise, good luck!

eekmumps · 13/07/2017 11:46

Thanks for the replies! I do have two other boys so I think I'm fully expecting a boy and possibly was looking out for stuff that could be boy like even though I want a surprise. I didn't see anything in the other two's scans but wondering if on my third child I've become and expert sonographer 😂. Am pretty sure I'm destined to be a boy mum which I would totally love! (Also would love a girl too obvs but I defo have a soft spot for cheeky boys). I'll have to wait until November to find out if my suspicions are right!
