Girls names again

Sigh. Baby girl due in three weeks. We just can't decide on a girl's name. We're even starting to squabble about it!

Current names in the hat are, in no particular orde of preference:

Biba Grace
Ophelia Jude
Violet
Francesca Ruby/Pearl

But we're open to suggestions! Give us some thoughts/inspiration! I seem to have ploughed through so many baby names books. I just don't want to curse my child with mockery or negative responses.

I like Biba and also Bibi was on our list. I really liked Ophelia until I told someone and the replied with the sentance "can I have Ophelia (a feel o' ya)."

in fact I love all of the names you have suggested. Good luck

So beautiful, I want a daughter for the sole reason I could call her this!

honey2theb · 23/03/2007 16:02

Honey is my most favourite name in the world, also love summer, india and mia!

belgo · 23/03/2007 16:05

What about Babette, or Bibi? Not so keen on Biba

snowwonder · 23/03/2007 16:05

Clara,

Lily

Poppy

Sanchia

honey2theb · 23/03/2007 16:15

oooh lily is nice!

My name is Kara, so i have to be biased and say i like clara coz it sounds the same

WinkyWinkola · 23/03/2007 16:24

See I l really love Babette too. But DH's boss's daughter is called Babette. Would it be terrible to use the same name? It's a wee bit Single White Female, isn't it?

Fimbo · 23/03/2007 16:27

Fleur
Nancy
Gillian

LittleBear76 · 23/03/2007 16:33

On the Ophelia theme - it is pretty, but in Hamlet the character of Ophelia goes mad and then drowns herself! Just not a very cheery namesake to have maybe
Love Nancy though - kind of retro.

belgo · 23/03/2007 16:42

They'll always be someone with the same name!

Go for Babette
no idea what the single white female reference means.

NoodleStroodle · 23/03/2007 16:43

I love the name Lily - would have another DD so I could call her that! Watch out for initials - DD has an IMP in her class and DS had boy with initials BMW in his class who was forever being asked if he was "revved up" about whatever was going on! And of the of course there is the urban legend of Mr & Mrs Green calling their daughter Theresa...

Twinkie1 · 23/03/2007 16:44

Sorry how could you even think of calling your child Babette - it will get called Babs - like Barbara Windsor!!!

NoodleStroodle · 23/03/2007 16:45

or Babe - hideous!

MerryMarigold · 23/03/2007 16:47

Don't worry. We had similar sit with our ds - a name came up the week before.

Biba Grace
Ophelia Jude
Violet
Francesca Ruby/Pearl

I don't like ANY of them except Francesca, but those are my personal opinions. Grace, Violet, Ruby, Pearl are all of the 1900's 'trendy' thing going on at the mo. Ophelia is pretentious (sorry) and Jude should be Judith.

But I LIKE Francesca. We liked Madeleine, but apparently there are loads out there at the moment...

belgo · 23/03/2007 16:48

nothing wrong with Babs. Babette is a french name I think

MerryMarigold · 23/03/2007 16:50

Along the lines of Cicely, I had a dolly called Cecily.

GreenandBlackOtter · 23/03/2007 16:52

babette is fab 'Babettes Feast'

homemama · 23/03/2007 17:03

I like Frances. Oh and Martha and Ruth. (DH likes Jocelyn since seeing knight's tale)
Despite this, DD is Lizzie (Elizabeth)
I think Pearl comes from Margaret, doesn't it?

From your list I like Grace as I always think Gracie sounds sweet. You'd be hard pushed to call her Francesca and not have it shortened.

Oh, and I've also heard the Ophelia 'a feelo ya' comment.

divamumplusbump · 23/03/2007 17:36

like Francesca

PizPizPiz · 23/03/2007 17:39

We picked Olivia. I wanted Clara and hubby wanted Sophie but we couldn't agree! Other contestants were Anna, Solène, Fiona, Celia.

Abwab · 23/03/2007 18:10

Babette could be shortened to Betty which I quite like. What about Iris?
