my step-niece is pregnant and is almost 44 weeks pregnant. up to now she has refused induction, but is wondering is this baby ever going to come out on its own!

she has had the first lot of prostin gel, nothing as of yet. they give up to 3 lots apparently, but not sure how far apart they give them.

usually 6 hours apart...

nappyaddict · 15/03/2007 14:32

ahh well she has probably had the second lot now then. what do they do if nothing happens after 3?

if she has dilated enough, she can have her waters broken, and if no contractions, give her synotcinon....if nothing doing, it will be another c,s , if she has had a previous c,s the hospital will be conservative in the amount of stimulation they give the uterus artificially

Perhaps they might offer her an elective c-section. Do you think she'd go for that, given the choice?

nappyaddict · 15/03/2007 14:50

yes i think she would. surely if she refuses there's more chance of complications and possibility of c section?

if elective yes, so she could be awake. it was being zonked out for hours she didn't like last time.

Well, I hope that she is offered one if the gel doesn't work! Please let us know how she gets on...

My friend was born at 44 weeks. Her mother refused intervention, but then she already had an 11 month old at home and didn't want them in the same school year.
