Weight gain - reassurance

Little shocked to step on the scales today at 23.1 weeks pregnant to find I have gained 7kg! (1 stone 1 pound). My BMI was 25 before so I was just in the healthy range and midwife didn't raise any concerns. I had put on 2kg when weighed at my 13 week scan so that means 5kg has gone on in 10 weeks.

I have a tendency to pack on weight unless I am absolutely militant (no carbs, absolutely no treats, exercise everyday). I must admit I have been slack these past few weeks with eating too much and haven't exercised whatsoever due to sciatica and PGP.

Did anyone gain rapidly in second trimester then manage to level it out? I was only aiming for a 14kg/2 stone gain and there's still 17 weeks to go ConfusedConfused

Can sympathise, I'm 26 weeks and have put on 1 stone 3 lbs. my bmi was 26 to start so I'm over the recommended by about 2 pounds now :( I'm hoping that my junk food cravings might stop soon and it'll all even out!

I really can't remember what I gained when first time around, but it was just over 2stone in total and had all come off with no effort in about 4 weeks ( all went back on again during mat leave when I ate lots of cake but that's a different story!). I wouldnt worry too much personally, even if you put on 1lb a week from now on you'll only be a few pounds over what you were aiming for, and If you started with a healthy bmi the recomended Wright gain is anything from 25-35lbs anyway.

I'm 26 weeks and miffed to see my weight creeping up again too although thats clearly inevitable! Read this morning that normal weight gain by 26 weeks is between 7 and 10 kg so sounds like you're about right :)

Oh good thanks very much for the replies. I have a hunger than cannot be sated! Must ease up on the sugar though, have looked up a few healthy recipes for baking so I can trick myself into thinking I'm eating sweet things.
I do plan to BF so with luck that will shift any weight, but I also didn't want to put my body under extra strain or cause any complications for the baby by gaining too much weight.

my bmi at start of pg was 21. weighed at 36 weeks and have put on 15kg!! midwife did "it's not all baby!" I agreed and said it was boob bum and thigh! she did say it was at the upper limit of what to expect and there's still a few weeks to go but she didnt seem particularly concerned I think particularly as pre pregnancy bmi not high. I haven't really been able to exercise as have had bad PGP plus I'm always hungry so put it down to that! will just have to breastfeed and walk it off when baby is born.

I put on about 15 kg too in first pregnancy, maybe even a tad more by 42 weeks! Sorry to disappoint OP but I had a v hungry on demand BF baby and it did NOTHING to help me lose any weight at all. Managed to strict diet it all off eventually... just in time to get pregnant with DD2 lol

This worries me, I also been big all my life and four years ago joined weight watchers and lost 6 stone. I write down everything I eat and exercise 5 times a week. Just found out im pregnant and not sure how I control my diet now im not dieting if you no what I mean. With me if i don't follow a diet and exerice like have a cheat day I eat rubbish and have no limit. I hope I control this somehow otherwise I will be hugh.

primaryboodle · 23/03/2017 15:20

I put on 4 stone in pregnancy, 2 weeks later i had lost 3 stone of it... it was mostly water and baby! (You could poke my legs and there would be a dent for a good hour in late pregnancy!) By 5 months i had lost it all not really doing much. I did breastfeed though!

Im at a similar weight gain. 24.4 weeks and up 8kg! I am also suffering with water retention so think that is some of it.

Saw the MIL the other day and she said I hadn't put weight on anywhere else so that was a nice little boost! Obviously 1 stone is not the baby bump, however. Blush I'm clinging on to BF helping me lose weight even if it didn't work for some! Else the despair may have me reaching for the biscuit tin

I'm amazed that you all have put on so little, I must not do pregnancy so well ha! 3.5 stone on with my first and 4 stone second time round, first time I lost it all within 4 months, this time I'm 4 weeks in and have lost close to 2 stone so please don't worry, and hey if you can't put on a little weight when pregnant when can you?! Ha x

DinosaurFanGirl · 24/03/2017 09:54

I'm 22 wks and I've put on just over 1 stone and it shocked me too until my partner pointed out the size of my boobs now haha. It's clearly all gone to them and the bump!

Everyone puts on different amounts of weight though and had different speeds. Every pregnancy is different and I can really see that between me and the other 2 pregnant women in my office. X
