Am I pregnant?

Hi. My name is Ella and I'm new here. I'm really confused as to whether I'm pregnant or not.

My last period was December 10th. My period would have been due around Jan 5th-7th. It's now 43 days since my last period and up to two days ago I was experiencing nausea, breast pain, and feeling light head even lying down. I felt different as well. Cramping i've never had before. I had what could have been a implantation bleed on the 14th. I did a pregnancy test on the 16th, which was negative. However, I could have conceived as late as the 8th January. Today I have the usual pre-period signs - bloating and headache. I'm really confused.

You need to do another test. If that's negative go and see your GP. Could be just a blip in your cycle.

Do another test. If it's negative then I would guess it's AF on her way. And if a positive then come back and let us know so we can congratulate you. 😊

Thanks for the advice Divadee. If I wasn't regular as clockwork I'd say it could be a blip, but I've never been this late before. I'm worried if I test again it will be too early still.

Get another test.

I have a like clockwork cycle too but a couple of years ago when TTC I had a 64 day cycle. I had bloods taken but it wasn't explained as anything other than a blip.

Fingers crossed for a bfp though!

Yes. Wait for first morning wee if you can. It's the strongest for picking up the pregnancy hormone.

Thanks, IcedLemonGin. I'll get another test after work. If it's a blip, I'll be gutted. But we can keep trying. If it's a positive, I'll let you know. Fingers crossed.

I remember it being so frustrating being in limbo. First morning pee would be best just in case you didn't concieve until the 8th as tomorrow would be 14 days post conception.

Frankly you've got a decent shot at a reliable result this evening if you go for one of the more sensitive tests - First Response or one of the own brand ones. Steer clear of the digital ones. I got positives for all mine pretty early on using afternoon/evening wees.

Thanks, Notjust. I bought a clear blue early detection test this time. Testing when I get home. A bit nervous.

I tested and it's a not pregnant result :( So I guess it's a wait and see when my period turns up. I still feel like there was something going on with my body, because we've been trying a while now and I've never felt the way I did over the last week. I've heard of women who are pregnant, but tested negative for a few weeks. Guessing that's pretty rare though?

Sorry to hear that. I looked up that test and despite the name it's not hugely sensitive so it's definitely worth checking again tomorrow. But yes, there are a few women who take a long time to get a positive result. There are also chemical pregnancies in which an egg is fertilised and hormone levels start rising but then, well, it all stops there. It can be very upsetting to experience but it often comes with a positive test result for a time, even if faint.

Fingers crossed it'll be resolved soon. NHS guidance is to see your GP after a year of trying if you're under 35 and six months if over, but that can feel like a very long time. I do sympathise.

Thank you, Notjust. I do appreciate everyone taking their time to reach out and offer advice. I googled first response to see who sells them. I'll have to wait until Monday to pick one up. I think as all the pregnancy symptoms have suddenly stopped, I either wasn't or it was a chemical one like you said. I guess a chemical pregnancy is nature's way of saying it wouldn't have been viable. Feeling frustrated and sad.

Thanks, Zippidy. I'll have to wait until Tuesday am now to take a first response test. Just to add more confusion, the pregnancy symptoms are back today. Breast pain, nausea, feeling dizzy. Wanting to pee more often as well. So there is a chance I am pregnant.

Yes you need to try a FRER test. These are the most sensitive. However I would not take your symptoms as gospel. I'm 8 weeks and do not have any symptoms. It's very unlikely those are pregnancy signs but more so AF triggers. I hope I'm wrong. How long have you been TTC? Is it worth speaking with your GP?

I can also highly recommend FRER, I almost never get a + with a clear blue until after AF is due whereas I always get a + 5-6 days early with a first response. I swear by pink dye tests.

Thanks, MouseLove and Calimommy. The FRER test was negative :( Still feeling really nauseous, dizzy, and having weird stomach cramps. If I've not had my period by day 60 (I'm at 46 now), I'll see the doctor for a blood test. We've been trying for seven months now, so guessing I need to see the doctor anyway?

OP, a good friend of mine found out she was pregnant last week after 3 negative tests. She was 30-odd days since her last period and had all the same symptoms she had with her last pregnancy. The GP confirmed it by blood test and said that occasionally the urine tests don't detect an early pregnancy. I don't want to get your hopes up if you're not pregnant but I would definitely see your GP - even if you're not pregnant the GP should be able to offer some advice to you about why you are feeling like you are. My period is now 64 days overdue. Pregnancy tests and blood tests both negative this week. Currently I'm suffering with breast pain (a couple of veins have popped up, but they don't seem to be getting any larger), bloating (my work uniform and trousers are getting tighter) and getting heartburn/a lot of wind. As the dizziness and nausea have stopped my doctor wants me to wait a month. If no positive test and no period, they'll ultrasound me. I'm not sure I can't wait that long! So, I'm thinking about dropping into local sexual health clinic and asking them to give me an ultrasound. What do you think?
