Maternity clothes?

Hi, I'm new to mumsnet and a first timer in this whole pregnancy thing, am 15 weeks + 3.

Wondering if anyone can recommend cool maternity clothes that don't cost the earth? I've looked at H&M, Topshop, Asos, Seraphine, Isabella Oliver and it just feels like it's all the same stuff and quite boring TBH.

Obviously don't want to spend tons of money but need to buy some new clothes, my pre-pregnancy jeans and trousers don't fit and getting sick of my tracky bums!

Any other suggestions?

Ta!

Hi! This thread is a little out of date. If you're looking for comfy maternity wear, take a peek at our round-up of the maternity dresses - as chosen by Mumsnetters. MNHQ

I had a pair of Dorothy Perkins skinny jeans that I lived in while pregnant.
Also bought a nice occasional dress from red herring at Debenhams.

I bought tops a size bigger and wore lots of empire line dresses that were non maternity.
I hated actual maternity clothing. It's all so frumpy. I must have returned 20 different dresses to mothercare.

My favourite maternity dress is from New Look. Other than that I've pretty much just got stuff from the places you've already listed.

Unfortunately a lot of maternity clothes just aren't that exciting (and as you get further on you'll care more about comfort anyway). Is there anyone you can borrow from, so at least you're not spending loads of money on clothes that don't inspire you? I got loads from my SIL which was a big help.

welshweasel haha read your comment about stripy tops and portly fitting jeans whilst wearing the very same! OP I am 15 weeks too, would recommend buying normal jeans a size or two up to tide you over till you have a big bump, they will get use too just after the birth.

Ebay is your friend!

21+3 weeks pg here (and have recently gone from "pasta for dinner?" to "wow, definitely pregnant").

I managed to get some (new or lightly worn) JoJo Maman Bebe wrap dresses on Ebay at much reduced prices - perfect for work and easy to jazz up a bit with funky jewellery and ankle boots (I really like 7 Boot Lane's sale selection).

H&M maternity jeans were another Ebay purchase - but be careful: as is said upthread, they are not generous in the leg. And H&M maternity leggings are good.

Beyond that, I've so far been getting away with slightly floatier/longer tops that I owned already (e.g. boho-type blouses with a long vest underneath), some cheap stretchy Uniqlo HeatTech tops with my existing cardigans/shirts/jackets worn over the top for a bit of structure, etc.

Depending on how you carry the pregnancy and where/when you put weight on, you may be able to wear many of your normal clothes (particularly shirts etc which can be worn unbuttoned) for quite a while; that's definitely been my experience.

Oh thank god you girls mentioned the H&M jeans! I was on a major downer because of them! I've went up a size and they are still in over stuffed very uncomfortable territory! Was thinking I was entering blimp stage and worried about the hard slog of getting it all back off again!

I'm 38 weeks and haven't baught a single piece of maternity clothing! With my daughter I attacked the New Look sale, but this time around I haven't bothered. I just wear leggings that are a size bigger and dresses over the top, they are getting a little short at the front now, but as I'm having a Csection next week I'm not buying maternity stuff now!! X

I lived in Gap skinny jeans when I was pregnant with my son. Had two pairs, by the time he was born they were ready to die because I was huge and went 8 days overdue.
