Faulty Pregnancy Test

I've had 2 positive tests from the same brand and many negatives from other brands such as clear blue. Could these positive tests be faulty? They were asda digital

I had this and paid privately for a scan. I went to the baby scan studio. I think it was £95 for an early pregnancy scan which reassured me and helped me to relax. Considering the maternity care in our area were so shit they lost my notes 8 times and I had a scan quite a bit later than 12 weeks as they forgot about me, i found it very reassuring. Good luck!

It's very unlikely to get a false digital positive. Do you have regular cycles? You said the GP said you would be about 6 weeks - I assume this is based on your last period date? If you ovulated late then you could still be earlier than that which would give you a negative on some tests as you don't have enough HCG.

In theory, HCG doubles every 48 hours (although does vary from person to person), so I would give it a couple of days and test again. If it's still inconclusive - ie you get some positive and some negative - I would go back to the GP and request a quantative HCG test, which needs to be repeated. There is always the very slim chance that low / slow rising HCG is due to an ectopic pregnancy, which is a situation that would need to be dealt with ASAP. Although the chances of that are very low.

I hope you get a clear result soon - I know it must be so confusing and frustrating for you Flowers

Worrymcworryface · 11/12/2016 20:51

How does GP know you have low hcg? My GP practice insist on a GP pg test to confirm it, rather than a hpt. Although I think this is unusual. If you're 6 weeks then a blood test will show pregnancy for sure.

Must be very frustrating for you 😖 - if I was you (I'm extremely impatient though) I'd try early response tests if GP won't test you. I feel it's important to confirm pregnancy as soon as possibly to ensure you're getting folic acid, proper care etc.

Please keep us posted and take care 😊

FlipperSkipper · 11/12/2016 20:52

A private hcg blood test is only around £50, might be worth it? I did one through medichecks where you take the sample yourself using a finger prick test and post the sample to them.

You aren't a very nice person. I feel bad for you. Please cheer up and stop being so angry.

Thankyou everyone, this is why I need to know, I poor health and need to know in regards to meds etc, plus I want to start doing all the right things. I may go back and ask for bloods if I don't get period, I'm not getting any sickness or symptoms apart from cramps which I had with my daughter but it could be period couldn't it

You aren't a very nice person. I feel bad for you. Please cheer up and stop being so angry. angry? Because I suggest that people should wait a bit before running to the GP Hmm I am a nice person btw, suggesting people should wait a bit before seeing a GP to confirm pregnancy doesn't mean I'm not nice, just a bit sensible. It's very easy when we are on the outside to see things more clearly and that's all I did. Even the GP said to wait a bit, which only goes to enforce what I said. Was the GP a horrible person for saying that? Nope, they were jus keeping it real.

I don't understand why my post was deleted? I just said I would have answered differently given the full facts i.e. Health and medication

raviolidreaming · 11/12/2016 22:24

the dr won't give me a blood test as I have low HCG

The doctor doesn't know that though, because they haven't tested, because the advice is to wait and see. Sorry, I know it's a stressful time, but I do agree with Reality16. Try a sensitive test (Superdrug or First Response maybe?) with first morning urine and go from there. Good luck.

SparkleMotions · 11/12/2016 22:32

Agree with post above, try another brand and maybe test when you go to the toilet first thing in the morning!

ghostspirit · 11/12/2016 22:47

I don't think reality is nasty. The gp did say leave it and see what happens. She was basically repeating what the gp said leave it for a while. But I do understand it would be difficult to wait and how you would be desperate for answers I would feel the same

haveacupoftea · 12/12/2016 07:59

To be honest with you, I think you are more than likely not pregnant, not with a viable pregnancy anyway after so many negatives. I would second seeking a private diagnosis.

TerriB84 · 12/12/2016 09:02

Out of interest did the positive results come first and then the negatives after? How long between tests and did you use first morning urine for all of them? If you have tested early (before period due) this can make a big difference as hCG levels are low then anyway.

Sophiachantal81 · 12/12/2016 09:29

Positive was first, then negatives then positive over a week. Done one this morning , negative. I think they were faulty tests

I think you need to see a different GP for a blood test. What other brands did you try? Super drug early are the most sensitive test out there at 10miu and I got a very faint line at 7dpo! I then took a clear blue and it was negative the next day I took another super drug and the line was darker, I will be 37 weeks this week!

Sophiachantal81 · 12/12/2016 10:25

Oh no!!!!

Nikki2ol6 · 12/12/2016 10:26

Oh no?

Sophiachantal81 · 12/12/2016 10:35

Lol not saying that's terrible, I'm just confused now haha. My daughter took 8 weeks to show up :-/

OP posts:
Sophiachantal81 · 12/12/2016 10:36

I don't know what to do, or what to think :(

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 12/12/2016 10:46

Maybe just leave it a couple of weeks, take some folic acid just in case, it won't harm. If your last pregnancy didn't show up until 8 weeks maybe this one will be the same. Or pay for a private scan or blood test like the others said.

Sophiachantal81 · 12/12/2016 11:26

I'll do that I think, just wait. Thankyou everyone for your lovely advice and good luck to those who are having babies xxxx
