Literal pain in the butt!

Hi

I'm nearly 11 weeks pregnant, and I have an on-off pain in my butt thats really starting to disrupt my life. It feels like cramp deep inside the buttock, usually on one particular side, though it switches sometimes. Certain positions make my butt seize up, so I'm trying to avoid them, but it happens a lot when I'm standing up (which I do a lot of for work), and it gets painful to put my foot down, and I end up pretty much standing on one leg, as it gives away if I put weight on it.

I spoke to the midwife about it and her first thought was sciatica, but we discounted that because that usually involves shooting pains, and the pain going down into the leg, wheras mine is really just in the butt.

Her next thought is SPD, though wouldn't it be unusual for that to literally just be the butt? But if its not that, what else could it be?

She's given me advice to try and help, like sleeping with a pillow between the legs, trying not to stand for too long, not straddling or stepping over things, and if it doesn't work, we'll look at physio.

If it is SPD, its just going to get worse isn't it, given its pretty painful and I'm only late first trimester?

Has anyone experienced anything similar or knows what it is?

BTW, the main sitting position that causes problems is sitting cross legged. Its unfortunate, as its how I naturally sit, and I keep doing it without thinking, and then occasionally getting stuck!!

I am 29 weeks now and have had it on and off since about 14 weeks. It is sciatica - it can just be in the bum cheek and not travel.

If you're doing the pillow between the knees thing, a word of caution : don't use too thick a pillow, a folded towel is enough. If you use too thick a pillow it can aggravate the pelvis and make things worse. I speak from experience.

I have this in my right butt cheek. Very uncomfortable indeed. Nothing eases mine i'm afraid 😣

Meh, its now been joined by a feeling of having been kicked in the fanny.
