midwife/consultant appointments

Hi, first of all i'm new to this site so not sure if I am posting in the correct section. I was just wanting to know if it is normal that I am 24 weeks and have only seen my midwife once (at 8weeks). she booked me in for an appointment for nearly 3 weeks ago but when I turned up she was not there. Another member of staff rang her and told me she had forgot my appointment and had gone home and would ring me after the weekend to rearrange. anyway she did not ring so I ended up going to a drop in midwife clinic at my local hospital just for peace of mind.

I have now managed to get intouch with my midwife and am booked in to see her when I am 28 weeks (this will only be the 2nd time I have seen her). Last year I had 2 lots of LLETZ treatment on my cervix so I have seen a consultant once during this pregnancy about this and he has referred me to see another consultant in late December as I suffered a delayed miscarriage at the beginning of the year so I have not yet had follow up about my pre cancerous cells. I have been really unwell with this pregnancy to the point where I was admitted to hospital to recieve fluids through IV drip and given anti sickness tablets and iron tablets. sorry for all the detail but I basically just wanted to know if this is normal for me to only see midwife once in 24 weeks and is it due to seeing a consultant instead? however the consultant has forwarded a letter to my midwife stating i no longer need to see him?

Is this your first baby? If so, absolutely not normal and I would get in touch with the supervisor of midwives to see what's gone wrong, especially with not showing up for an appointment then not rescheduling it.

I'm on my 3rd pregnancy and saw my midwife at approx 8 weeks (booking in appointment), 16 weeks, 25 weeks, which I think is standard where I live. I've also had more regular midwife appointments, more than usual in an uncomplicated pregnancy, since 28 weeks due to certain issues picked up.
This is in addition to consultant appointments BTW.

this is my 3rd pregnancy I have a 6 year old daughter, then had delayed miscarriage in feb this year. I have had scans and all appeared fine. when I was admitted to hospital I had urine tested and gad 4+ ketone level and was told my midwife would check this at next appointment however this was in september and I won't see her now until December. thanks for your replies.

This definitely doesn't sound right to me. I saw my GP at around 7wks, midwife at c.9wks. I'll be seeing my midwife again at 17wks, and then I have further GP appointments because it is my first plus more midwife appointments. I did a count and from 20 weeks I seem to be expected to see someone every 2-3 weeks. I also had lletz treatment so have been referred for additional scan and consultant appointment at around 23wks but that is on top of everything else not instead of. I agree with pp that you should follow this up with the midwife service.

yeh I think that is supposed to be standard where I live, but i've only had my booking in appointment. hope all goes well with your pregnancy.

Doesn't sound right to me, especially if you've had some problems with the pregnancy. Although it is up to you to book in your appointments, they don't do them automatically. However she should definitely be telling you when you are due them. Hopefully this link will help

yeh at my booking appointment I was told to book in for 16 weeks after having my 12 week scan by ringing her. you can only ring between 8.30am and 9.30am so I did this and she booked me in for a time when I would be 21 weeks this is the appointment I turned up to and she had gone home. I was then told she would ring to rearrange and gave her my number over the phone. she then did not ring so I left numerous voice messages getting nowhere until last week when another member of staff answered and booked me in my midwives diary for december. so I have still only actually spoke to her once and im 24 weeks

I would definitely request to speak with the supervisor of midwives. That's terrible, particularly as you had two lletz treatments. I'd also request to be referred to a consultant to check your cervical length. I had a few issues with my cervix because of lletz treatments, but they were managed and all was fine, but they should definitely be referring you.

thanks, i have an appointment with a consultant for 29th December I think this is in relation to my LLEtz treatment as due to being pregnant I havent had my proof of cure smear as I fell pregnant then miscarried and had to have surgery as it was a delayes miscarriage then fell pregnant again which is now. did you have any problems with pregnancy due to the LLetz im panicking aswell that I havent had the proof of cure smear so dont know for sure that all the pre cancerous cells have gone ....

My cervix shortened due to the lletz treatment, it's not the case for everyone though. I think I was just unlucky, I had progesterone pessaries from 24 weeks and was signed off to rest as much as possible at 32 weeks, I went overdue in the end and had regular internal scans, so was looked after well. Is it a obstetrics consultant you are seeing? Personally I would be asking to be seen before the 29th, but only because of my experience, not saying it to scare you. I was given the all clear for the pre cancerous cells three months before I fell pregnant and also checked ten months post birth due to some bleeding I was worried about. Hope your results come back clear, my cousin fell pregnant a month after CIN3 treatment and had a large amount removed, she carries full term with no issues.
