How much bleeding is normal after internal exam at 39w

I had an exam today at 39w - they couldn't do a sweep because although the cervix was soft and effaced it was only 1/2cm dilated. Had some bleeding right after but 2 hours later there was a bit more.

How much bleeding is normal after an internal? Mine is brownish and med-heavy like a period but seems to have tapered off now.

Mine was similar after my first sweep and had a few period type pains, all stopped though, if concerned speak with your midwife :)

I started bleeding heavily and sure enough dd arrived two days later. Ring the number on your notes for reassurance. If they think they need to see you they will bring you in.

thanks for the replies - bleeding tapered off last night and none at all today. Panic over!

I didn't have an internal at 39 weeks with either of my DC and would have refused regardless! They're so painful. What is the interal for? Why do a sweep pre due date? Confused Smile
